I just bought my own truck a year ago and the company I am contracted to had paper logs so whenever I needed to do personal things???
Anyhow now that I am on elog Everytime my truck moves it puts me on duty eats into my 70 hr clock.
What is the rules? What if I want to take care of personal things? How do I go it ect

Personal stuff is still off duty, provided you are empty and not trying to reposition the truck for your next load. It would be defined as "personal conveyance" or "PC" for short. Of course if you're on a carrier's system, they have control over whether or not that is an option and the ability to set parameters.

Personal conveyance is going to be a red flag. It's a nice little poison pill of confusion that creates lots of different interpretations and plenty of latitude to write up a violation/issue a fine. Funny how that works.

I've used pc lots of times already since turning on the babysitter 12/17.

When I'm in town, I drop my trailer at a secure location and bobtail home on pc and back to the trailer on pc.

Yesterday the consignee asked me to drop my trailer in their yard and told me they would call me when ready. I used pc to bobtail to the nearest truckstop, took a shower, ate lunch etc and bobtailed back using pc.

Saves a lot of time on the old 70.

Well, made sure the software I went with had it, plus the AOBRD setting. BigRoad even has a yard move option. 5 miles of movement at any speed without logging. It's a beautiful thang all things considered ;-)

Ask a recruiter, do you have line 5 PC logging in your trucks?

    Recruiter: No.

Move on to another company that does have line 5.
