Other drivers go there, you can too. Compared to other locations it's crowded, but you can do it. Don't panic.

Long Island isn't that bad. I used to deliver to fast food restaurants out there every week. Use Expressways, not Parkways. The further east you go, the less congested it is. VERY limited places to park at. I used to drive from Massapequa to the Vince Lombardi every Friday around lunch time. It’s only 46 miles. Sometimes it would take an hour if the Cross Bronx and GW was clear, other times it would take 3 hours.

Heading out of Long Island about 1998 view of the towers on a particularly intense sunny day. I did not know this at the time but it woul be the last shot of these towers.

Take away the traffic, Long Island is like anywhere else you drive. It's not as tedious as driving in Queens, Brooklyn, or Manhattan. Study your atlas until you get familiar with everything. I always had to park on streets near pickups and deliveries. Good thing about running those places is that you can always order delivery to your truck if you want something different than what you normally est on the road

I've always thought NYC and L.I. to be a lot easier to get around in than Boston or Philly. Well not at first, but after I started to get a feel for the area and got so I could figure out how to get back out of there.

That's the rule in New York. Trucks drive on expressways. They are not allowed on parkways. Can't stress that enough. Parkways aren't built to handle trucks.

Also, you will see bridge clearance signs all over New York that are wrong. The rule I was once told is you add 12 inches to whatever the sign says, unless the sign is green or contains the word "actual". That was seriously unnerving for me at first.

Last time I pulled for the Harrisburg Walmart DC they were providing good routing directions. They even described the store parking lot entrances and which one to use. Guess they had gotten tired of all the tire marks all over their esplanades.
