It's all hourly except for the guys that run to the hubs theirs is mileage and hourly.
As far as burning your 70, the city guys never got close. The linehaul guys would frequently get very close.

As a local/regional driver, I can say, LTL, or P&D( pickup & delivery) or a line haul is the only way to go. I've done several forms of that, and about the only by the hour trucking around. The pluses are, regular routes and customers, by the hour, it's amazing how if bth, how many anxieties go out the window. "Want me to wait? NO problem", take your time, and that mindset transfers over to a better driver, and family person. You start at a reasonable time, like most other working people, get to know customers, believe me, it sucks being a stranger all the time, and above all, 5 o'clock, it's Miller time, and you'll make the kids ball game after all. The downsides are few, including, it's going to be mostly city work, some rural, you may be asked to go right back where you came from for that 1 pallet in city traffic, equipment may not be the best, but also, breakdowns are paid for too, and more like a real job. LTL and P&D don't come up often, and for good reason. Those drivers know they have it made and have to die for an opening. Good luck, I'd go for it.

That’s why I scrapped food service pretty quickly. Those people are worked like dogs. I mean they make great money, but that’s about the only plus I saw.

I can understand linehaul burning their 70. Running regional, I know I have to basically burn my 11 every day to be very productive.

Friend of mine does linehaul with Estes Express. Home every day and makes, on average $100G. Many linehaul drivers make a lot more than that.

    Kansas - XPO Jobs

The Salina center doesn’t have any driver openings listed right now but you can look at open driver positions at nearby terminals to get a better idea of what to expect.

I work for Xpo. Every ltl has their issues, the key is to avoid the drama. You can make a lot of money if your a good worker.

I did linehaul for XPO. It was a generally positive experience, I have nothing bad to say about the company. Typically about a 12-hour shift, 5x a week M-F. Often there were weekend runs available if you wanted. Mileage pay for driving, hourly for everything else, including fueling, building and breaking sets (doubles), and working the dock. As far as I'm concerned, working the dock is a lot more challenging than driving a truck. One thing I liked was that, working nights, every weekend felt like a 3-day weekend since I didn't go in until 8:30 Monday night.
