I found that interesting that the engine with Lucas ran longer dry.

Oxbow, bzinger and Bean Jr. Thank this.

Useful to know if you're a used truck salesman and want to know how long of an after-sales limited "warranty" to offer. o_O

I think the supposed claim to fame of these products is their "sticking power" which is supposed to prevent dry starts. But I don't know a test for that.

    Oxbow and blairandgretchen Thank this.

Use gear lube, 85w-90, GL4 for DPF/EGR trucks and older. GL5 for SCR equipped trucks. It has the additive package your engine craves, like Brondo and its electrolytes... ;-)

Lucas is just mineral oil, no additive package, a waste of money.

    ShooterK2 and W9onTime Thank this.

I’ll freely admit to buying Schaefer’s oil, with no real assurance that it’s any better than other brands.

However, I like the rep, they deliver to the house, and their sample kits are $15 each.

    I’m a sucker too :)

Oxbow, ShooterK2 and bzinger Thank this.

I don't know if it's true or not but, I recall reading on some oil analysis website that all these oil additives do is dilute the additives package thats in the oil your using?
    Any truth to that?

There is a video of that. He tried two different oils. Both ran twice as long as stp and Lucas.

    Oxbow Thanks this.
