Hankook? Falken moved to Robbinsville years ago so it had to be Hankook; the company I retired from brings the containers from the port to both companies.
I remember an owner operator coming from reefers to tanks saying humping a few hoses sure beats fingerprinting 10,000 cases of candy bars on the floor...Kyle G., Another Canadian driver, BennysPennys and 1 other person Thank this. -

I was sore for days. After unloading all those tires inside that hot van trailer I had to drop it, hook to a flatbed and load trim board stacked 13'4" high and tarp it with 8 footers. Wasn't long after that I went back to tankers lolD.Tibbitt, Flat Earth Trucker, bryan21384 and 1 other person Thank this.

A lease-to-own situation with 0 chance of actually finishing out the lease and owning the company eh? Sounds highly efficient and not at all like graft or a shell-company tax-evasion strategy at all...TheLoadOut, Kyle G., Another Canadian driver and 1 other person Thank this.

The customer is paying for it, its just an odd way of conducting the transaction.
The customer contracts a company, they employ the lumpers. Driver/company pays the lumpers. Driver/company got paid for the lumpers in the rate for hauling the product (built in higher rate by the amount the lumpers charge). Broker paid more because the lumpers had to be covered (unless contract freight), and the broker charges the customer for the lumper fees.
Its basically a way for the customer to avoid paying payroll taxes and insurance for the lumpers. Just odd accounting where you actually see the cost at the door, rather than completely hidden, such as in a case where there are employees to load/unload and their labor cost is built into the product cost rather than the shipping cost.Another Canadian driver and Chinatown Thank this. -
The load (on your trailer) is not delivered until until it's on the consignees dock. Just like buying a mattress at your local furniture store. The delivery guy rolls up to your house, he unloads the mattress INTO your bedroom and the delivery is complete. Or another example, Bekins loads your household furniture in Phoenix and arrives at your new home in Cincinnati and unloads your furniture into your house ! He doesn't tell you (the homeowner) to unload your furniture...Right ? Does this make sense ?
