I was seriously considering it. The stories about the MIL light scare me though. It's not just one or two people saying that either.

Well I can tell you that nearly every new Volvo I have passed has had a check engine light on, haven't noticed it in the Macks though. I have a weird problem of looking at people's dash boards when I'm passing them lol

I've heard that about them too. I had a 12' Volvo that had no issues. MIL light is a spooky thing, especially when it can't be solved.

Guess you have never driven a 1 stack Mack with a window in the back. 238 HP and a 5 speed. That is a looong way between gears.

I just did actually about 2 weeks ago!! What an awesome experience. I just bobtailed around through a few gears, but you're absolutely right. I could come out of 2nd gear, go make dinner, and by the time I got back it would be ready for 3rd. So cool to drive one though. Big hood, loped idle when it was cold, and just a growl when you give it fuel

My uncle had a '76 R-600 dump truck. 300 HP, 5 speed. He bought that truck in 1999, for $15000 ran it until 2018 when he sold it for the same price. He was always the first truck at the quarry in the morning, the last to leave. Hauled lots and lots of blacktop (without A/c of course)

I drove that truck a few times, what an awesome experience! Had the growl, the loped idle, and it sounded better than anything out there.

He's since upgraded to an '88 Superliner, and he really doesn't like it. It's a 350 with an 8LL transmission, but it's geared too high for the area he runs.
