    And the animals are starting to pair up in my front yard. NOAA weather radio has been going off every 10-15 min with severe t'storm warnings, and the commercial/weather channel says my area is expected to receive up to a foot of rain from this system that is slowly moving south...boy did I pick a great time to come home...:confused:

    We had tornados popping up all over ystdy from it. I had to go get our friends kids who where home while mom was at work.

    Delivered and then picked up my next load headed over to Aberdeen. Now just waiting to get in the Coon Rapids shop in the AM then get to moving. Thought I was going to go run....Ashley said it I need to get my PM done get it done.

    I find it amazing how mother nature can turn thunder storms on and off within minutes. Woke up to a cool t'storm 2:30 this morning. For about 20 minutes it was "Paparazzi after a celebrity" type lightning with the typical long roll thunder we get down here in FL. Even a couple bone jarring, rattle the windows close ones...then, like someone turns off a light switch, just a random far off flash and within a few more minutes the whole storm was done.

    Don't mind me. Just thinking out loud here...

    I drove a total of 47,675 miles during the Nov-Feb period. There were 123 days that period, so an average of 387 miles per day without any home time. I ended up getting my .50 per mile goal.

    Noob Eric: "what? Only 387 miles per day? That's nothing! You slacker! I drive over 600 miles per day!"
    College educated Eric (yes he actually exists, believe it or not): "that factors in ALL days, including 34 hour resets, shorter driving days due to loading/unloading, days I didn't drive because of maintenance and a 5-day period where I was sitting once, etc."
    Noob Eric: "so I only need to try and drive 387 miles per day?"
    Educated Eric: "nope, stick to aiming for 600 miles per day and it'll even out the non-driving days. Trust me. Do your own math and you'll see that you do NOT average 600 miles per day. Promise."
    Noob Eric: "ok, whatever."

    During that period, we (Magnum OTR drivers) needed to average at least 11,500 miles per month to get max points toward .50 per mile.

    11,500 miles x 4 months = 46,000 miles needed for max points

    If I maintain my average of 387 miles per day, how many days do I need to drive to reach 46,000 miles?

    46,000 / 387 = approx 118 days

    It takes me 118 days to reach the minimum of 46,000 miles to maintain max points toward .50 per mile. There were 123 days during that period, so I should be able to take off 5 days during the 4 month period and still maintain my .50 per mile, assuming all else is equal (no tickets, no log violations, above average fuel economy, etc) Do I plan on sitting for 5 days every 4 months? No. So maybe I can count those as 5 extra days of home time. Maybe I can take 10 days of home time every 4 months. I like having the cushion "just in case".

    Noob Eric: "only 5 days off every 4 months? That's ########! That 1 day off per every week of driving works out much better than that!"
    Educated Eric: "you have less than 1 year of experience and you're making .50 per mile. Do you want a lot of Hometime or do you want to make the best of an opportunity to make serious money as a noob?"
    Noob Eric: "I want to make .50 per mile. None of the other companies could have given me .50 per mile this soon."
    Educated Eric: "well there you go. Work for the pay rate you want! Maybe later you'll get better and become more efficient and you can take a few more days of home time. Everyone has different driving habits. Maybe you're more motivated than me and can take more days off. Maybe you're more efficient than me."

    If you got this far, thank you for putting up with the madness of my brain. I hope someone new out there who is on the fence about what company to join sees the benefit in this. Cheers!
