Agree 100%. Problem is getting the local companies to hire you without OTR experience... I'm trying to get a local job currently, and my 4 years of CDL experience is all related to hauling grain on/around the farm, and for a local landscaping company. I have no DAC report, I don't run logbooks, so hard to "verify" employment. I have 150k+ miles of CDL driving, but zero way to prove it.

I agree with you, Im working at a food service warehouse as a driver and it definitely is hard work, but I can't wait for that paycheck.

I can only assume the problem with being the new guy, in an area like chicago, that you get the less desirable routes. And since the pay is so good, there is not a lot of route turnover and it would take quite a while to move up to the routes in the nice areas with big wide streets, no gangstas, etc.

I have yet to find a job that pays better than foodservice delivery. Sysco, US Foods, Maines. Ive worked at US Foods for 2 years now. Im still low man at our depot(8 drivers), but I made over 60k in 2012 working 4 days a week, sat, sun, wed off. Im home every night, and work anywhere from 9-14 hours a day depending on the route you get. The work is hard, but you can't beat the time off or pay anywhere. The more veteran guys make more than me, and the 4 guys that work 5 days a week at our depot are all making over 75k a year.

I dont think the beer guys do as well as foodservice but they do well. In our area the budweiser distributor starts at 19.90 hourly with top rate around 23.00. Most guys I worked with at Sysco made over 75k but worked at least 60 hours a week.

Ya I think it has something to do with the area I'm in Chicago and they pay them 39 cents a case and they go out everyday with 1000 cases plus

Ltl drivers get between .55 and .65+ cpm and drive anywhere from 400+ to 600+ a day without touching anything but glad hands and crank handles. Anything else requires extra pay
