We run out all our time and do a reset either at home or in a hotel....

Maximizing your hours yields the best financial results! Good luck.

In order to maximize hours should i go off duty everytime i back up to a dock while my trailer is being unloaded? Sometimes its 30 min & sometimes an hour.

I would refer to your company policy on this. For me, had to get light maintenance done and logged off to do my break while it was completed.

We just drive, fuel, and keep conversations to two minutes.

This whole felony thing is just wrong. If someone repays their debt to society they should be able to pick up their lives where they left off and move on. When someone gets slapped with the eternal black eye of a "felony" they can never expect to have a fair chance at life like those who don't carry that mark. All it does is push those people back towards doing wrong things again. It's a vicious cycle that needs to be stopped.

The 34 hour break is not mandatory. You can still keep running every day you have available hours on what is called a rolling recap of hours. The only thing they are worried about is your last 8 days worth of hours. So long as you don't exceed 70 hours of driving in the last 8 days even if you worked 16 days in a row you are still legal.

I did take the time to read most of these comments. I can't say any are wrong. However when I was driving I used my hours as the freight ran. As long as I got good runs I ran. I also had great FMs/Dispatchers that seemed most of the time to get me to good places where I could sit a day or two and not be stuck out in (removed) Egypt! When the freight was light I ran light. As an OTR driver you got to be thinking about where will I be in 2 or 3 days. Again RUN THE FREIGHT! That is where you will maximum your pay. That 34 is there to get you back to making money quicker.

    Real simple.

You have 70 hours to work around trailers and big trucks or you can drive all or part of it. The current HOS makes sure you cannot use all 70 to drive coast to coast (Which is about what it will take to do a trip solo in about 6 days) You can have a team set of two drivers and run coast to coast TWICE in 6 days, make a mountain of money like we did.

The 34 reset is optional. The one reason it will be used, is because you are going to sit 48 hours anyway until you have enough 8th day recap hours given back to you to do any work at all on the 9th day worth a ####. At least you can spend the evening of the second day after your 34th hour running on your fresh 70 hour work week.

Most people do not run Recaps anymore and I don't expect them to understand my post here.

There is no point in trying to game a system to get endless hours. You can work until the end of time on a string of 5 hour days. But you will need that long to get anything done. And will starve on the paltry income in the meantime.

You got 70 hours for the new workweek. Might as well go ahead and burn it up fast because it only takes 34 hours instead of 48 or more to get back any more on the 9th day.
