I’m having a problem with my VGT throwing some codes. My turbo isn’t working anymore. I’m talking to a tech who claims he can install a manual turbo that would cost less than replacing the VGT so I wouldn’t have a VGT anymore. But he said he would have to fabricate parts. Is this a legit procedure? I want to make my truck less reliant on electronics if I can, but I also want to know that what is being done is generally accepted by the diesel tech-ing community.

The VGT is considered an emissions device, curious how removal wouldn't be considered illegal.
