That's cool, as long as you continue learning. We where all fairly new at one point
But for the future, if you need to feather the clutch and the accelerator to get moving (like in a car) you're in too high of a gear. That's very bad for the trucks drivetrain.

Ok thanks, yeah no one ever told me. The dude training me said he never touches first and second even fully loaded unless he's on a hill so I didn't think starting empty in high range was a big deal.

This is why companies are interested in putting drivers in automatics. They are burning up clutches. Probably heard some big talking super trucker telling trucker tales at the lunch counter and believed it lol. Grasshopper, don't listen to those instructors, take off in high gear always, just remember to carry white sheets in your sleeper and keep the U. S. Marshals on speed dial.

Dumdriver Thanks this. -
I don't touch 1st. Usually start out in 3rd. Sometimes 2nd if heavy or on a hil (or in a 9 speed-lol) but that's about it. I suppose You can start in 4th If empty (I don't). But 6th is just too much wear and tear on the drivetrain

Ok now you know. But for the record think of it like your car. You start in first. Yes truck has bigger motor. But is heavier. So needs that power and gearing to move. If you can't let off the clutch with NO throttle and it starts to move you need lower gear. If loaded on flat second will get you moving. On a hill first. Down hill still start in second.Fold_Moiler Thanks this.
