I've got nerve damage that affects my left leg from a previous back injury. I drove a ten speed auto shift last week for a couple of days. I enjoyed it. The strength in my left leg is half of my right leg and I have a tendency to roll the ankle a lot. I develop a limp as the day goes on and using a clutch pedal gets tougher later in the day. I am a company driver but if I owned a truck it would be an auto.
also there are several different manufactures of autos and they perform differently.

I was kidding in my post. I prefer a stick. I have more control over my speed, hills, and backing. To each their own though.

i've heard our company will fire you if they figure it out.
i don't know they'd figure it out unless it's a recording n the ecm. but it's exactly what i did the one and only time i drove it. crawling the hills in 3rd gear at 900 rpms just didn't work for me. -
I enjoy shifting. .. I have really come along way.. I am proud of my shifting skills... I can double clutch, float,, and skip gears smoothly. .. so, I guess because I worked so hard at my shifting skills I want to use and show them off... even if I am only showing off to myself.. lol.. so, when I was given a volvo automatic to drive for a few weeks I missed shifting... the volvo had some ishift thing.. were I could sort of shift it myself... but, i did nt mess with it..
The one thing I didn't like.. but, i am sure if I was staying in an automatic I would adjust to.. was reverse... the reverse wasnt like a manual... at at times seemed too fast... -
Someone posted about not showing in N when it actually is. That means the shifter is going bad. Happened to me. For 6 months I kept telling my company I couldn't downshift manually and would have to be extremely careful to to let it automatically do it. Scared the bejesus out of me a few times. Luckily, I shut the truck off at a receiver and when I went to start it is when it finally went kaput.

Forgot to say. I love my automatic. It's fun to watch all the super truckers in traffic jams. hehehe Sorry, couldn't resist.
Abra Thanks this. -
Driving a manual trans in traffic isn't all that bad if you know what you're doing.
