I'm glad I'm not the only person that said wtf too..I mean, sure,when I got my typical 500 mile run from Marten,and 2 days to run it,sure,I'd get it there as quick as I could.If only so I didn't completely screw up my logs running 250 miles a day.As it turned out, I was rarely in danger of running out of hours at Marten.Just the same, I would try and get it there as quick as I could.Only to sit.

Seeing as Marten runs tons of reefer freight and does a lot of Wal Mart loads, I don't know where he is able to disregard appointments and just bring the load in whenever he rolls into town. Hell,Wal-Mart don't even want you on the property until 30 minutes before your appointment,they sure the hell aint taking the load a day early.Not usually anyways.
Your right Wal-mart is a pain. But you can have the appointment changed. Or drop it some where or switch it with another driver who is out of hires. I've done all 3.
Try bringing in a load early to a grocery warehouse and see if they don't throw the bills in your face and order you off the property.I know occasionally you may be able to get a load off early, but the load planners arent betting on it.Even if you are fortunate to get the load off,there are still drivers ahead of you who already emptied a day before you and are still waiting on a dispatch.So I'm not sure how you just breeze to the head of the line ''because you showed them you want to work.'' Once again. have the Appointment changed. I also go right in and get unld early 75% of the time it's no problem. I always have a pre-plan BEFORE I get to the receiver. My FM knows if I'm sitting no one is making money. She keeps me rolling. I make her look good and her job easy. It's a two way street. As for the drivers who where mty first. Not my problem.

I'm just not down for playing these type of reindeer games with any company.You either have steady freight or you don't.I'm not playing mind games with these people,to show them how ''much I want to work." My record should be a clear indication of my commitment to safety and on time delivery. It's their job to keep me rolling when I get there.I'm a pretty flexible guy,as you must be in this industry, but I'll tolerate only so much
Steady freight is a relative thing. Depends on time of year, Location, Type of freight, Etc. You have to show them that you are as good as that record. Actions speak loader then words. "it's there job to keep me rolling" I don't think so. It's there job to move freight. And they will do that as cost effectively as possible. Including giving to the driver who will get it there the quickest.
Any company that can't demonstrate to me that they are interested in my financial well being and my abilty to pay my bills with the freight they provide will not have me as a driver for very long.

It's a two way street.

Ahh, I see.Thanks for clearing that up.I guess that's why I left Marten.I just didn't want to be treated like a dog..

They terminated me from doing what the breakdown instructed me to do on the computer. when i did as i was to do in a snow storm mind you, the truck got damaged(transmission went out) and i was held accountable for the damage. then 2 months after i got canned, the owner filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer of the transmission because the company was having too many trucks breaking down because of "transmissions" going out on their trucks. Did i get an apology from the company, NO, did they offer my job back NO, but they did put on my DAC report a violation against company policy due to equipment. Like I said the company is a joke, and when I brought this to the owners attention it was not a concern to him, but I did get the impression from him, that for every driver he dismisses or loses, he has 100 to replace, so why take the time to do the right thing when you can just ignore it and move on. And now after 20 tears of experience, I can not even get another OTR or any kind of driving job because of his lies and idiocracy towards drivers.
P.S. my nephew QUIT them after i was canned because he was related to me and he went from 3000+ miles a week to 1000 to 1500 miles a week within 2 weeks after i was terminated.

Nice too see Marten hasn't changed and continues to be a bottom feeder....I was leased there for all of about three months back in the mid 90's, they were a half assed operation then as well..

WOW Marten sounds even worse now. Jumping through hoops and playing stupid games to barely make a living is a product of too many drivers for too little freight. The bigger the company and the more they advertise the more horrible and inhumane they will treat you. Mega junk hauling at it's finest..

So u are the one that dont know what u are talking about when it comes Marten and how they treat other drivers u only know to drive the truck. U know u are only another driver to them . u just think they like u so much your job is safe. wake up call . I hope u are right since u love them so much.ps and u talk a lot of bull.

im glad your doing good with a worthless company. but i just want to know if you were one of the drivers that was kissing butt and jumping ahead on the waiting list to let your fellow drivers sit while you get all the loads, maybe thats the reason they have to keep hiring more drivers, because they cant keep the ones that have to sit while the "PERFECT" ones gets all the miles . you are just another pawn in the game of life and all the fighting you put in for marten will probably get you fired too. think about it if randy will fire his nephew, then why not YOU

FACT IS THEY SHOULD RESPECT ALL THE DRIVERS NOT JUST THE PERFECT ONE.THAT THINKS HE IS UN REPLACEABLE. AND LIKES BEING A DOG.

Who knows. He also personally handwrites letters to fired drivers calling them stupid idiots. You know just normal things big wigs do in the course of their daily tasks.
