well i broke down again today in rhode island. 4th time since i started here 4 months ago. this time i was leaving my stop in providence road island jumped onto 195 west and looked back and saw smoke and coolant flying everywhere. at the same time i started to smell it and the low coolant dash warning came on. pulled it over and killed it. coolant and smoke everywhere. had to wait awhile before i could see if in fact it was a hose or what. blown top radiator hose. it was rubbing against a spring clamp from a neighboring hose. road service tried to order replacement hose and they said international said there were only 13 in the usa and none around here. lol so they jerry rigged a universal 3 ft peice of hose up for me and refilled coolant. got me back to the yard. had to stop at blue beacon tho to wash that pig. the turbo is also making a bad whistling chirpy noise when climbing hills. it doesnt sound good. sounds like its bout to blow lol. either way i told my job that this was bs and i need a more reliable truck. they are putting me in a cascadia i think.

shes got about 190,000 i drove the cascadia today that thing is good other then the fact it steers me off the road. so im back in the prostar untill they fix the cascadia issue. the amount of room in that freightliner is unreal compared to the prostar (daycab)

Coolant loss on a Maxxfarce can be an issue. When refilled from empty, they have a special negative pressure tank the tech's have to use to force coolant into all the various voids in the engine. These things have 2 radiators, and there are chambers in the water jacket that don't get filled if they don't do it that way.

134,000 miles so far in my prostar with a maxxforce engine. So far no problems to report as of yet. Had a 2009 Volvo 670 and by far i am glad to be in the Prostar. The roominess of the Prostar is Excellent. I am 6' 7'' tall and 275 lbs (no i am not fat at all) and when i lay down i can stretch out on the bed with ease.
I am averaging right about 6.7 - 6.9 mpg since i have had the truck. Usually i keep it about 60 - 62 mph and when possible i slap the cruise on and just enjoy the quiet and comfortable ride. The seats are wonderful too. Having had 2 back operations this Prostar sure is nice on me. I guess since i make sure i get my prostar into the shop every 15,000 miles for A or B service they check it out and make sure things are ok. -
i work on the 13 everyday and see all the problems these engines have and i have work with the engineers from navistar. The base engine is a good and powerful engine but the egr system can not handle what it was intended to handle. The down time on these trucks is not good at all and even after repairing the egr system two weeks later the same truck with the same problem will be back. The repair times for repairing the egr system on theses engines is 11.5 hrs warranty time and in real time its bout 13 hrs. Thats just the egr system repairs havent even mention the turbo problems. It doesnt matter how you got your truck spec. out you will be visting a shop in the near future

maxxforce 15 is the cat design not the 13 matter of fact the new cat engines are the maxxforce 13 engines now off road of course i work on these engines everyday and they are no fun at all as soon as you repair one it comes back for the same problem two weeks later the egr system was not set up to handle what it was intended to and that is coming from a navistar engineer
-
the maxxforce 15 is the cat block not the 13 and now we dont even make the 15 anymore
-
there has been many problems with the h/p pump cracking and there is now a recall on them
-
when this process first came out anytime you had to do anything with the egr system you was to flush the system no matter what but they have changed the service plan so many times getting hard to figure out what in the hell you are supose to do now that warranty will pay i know this engine put a hurting on international but #### if its broke just fix it make it right for the customer im so tired of explaning to the customer of why hes back or what is taking so long to fix his/her truck im glad we got the cummins back at least the downtime wont be as bad ive done got to where i wont even remove the dog house anymore i just jack the cab up i believe any international mech can do the repairs in their sleep as often as we do them international needs only one more recall remove the 13 and install the 2350 isx 15l and be done
Heavyd Thanks this.
