My neck is slightly too large. But I wear a 2x shirt mostly for my chest and shoulders. Years of heavy lifting, so I’d look stupid with a pencil neck. I don’t snore except during allergy season and I don’t wake up at night.
But the sleep center says it’s an automatic test and 2-3 weeks for results and I might have a really good job opportunity across the country I really don’t want to screw up.
so the question is...what can be done? Sorry. I’m new and when I read the fmcsa regs I can’t find the part that says it’s federal law that anyone with a large neck gets a study.
thanks.

Your right, there is no law requiring a sleep study.
GreenPete359, Aamcotrans, tscottme and 2 others Thank this. -
But how do you convince them of it?
-
You can try another Dr for your med card..as long as you disclose that the last one was requiring a sleep study.
Look for a Chiropractor that does DOT physicals, I’ve always found them to be the most lenient. -
Yeah, go somewhere else to get med card, they just want to sale another sleep machine, everyone has sleep apnea to them
Aamcotrans and a.paul Thank this. -
Really? I assumed there’d be some doctor shopping rule against it. Thanks
-
Just call until you find a place that doesn't care about a sleep . Go to them for a second opinion.Aamcotrans and a.paul Thank this. -
But I have to tell them the last place wanted a study.
-
There are rules against Dr shopping but I’m not going to go look for the rule.
fwiw, if you get a note from your primary care Physician saying that you don’t have sleep apnea it may hold some weight with the DOT Dr.a.paul Thanks this. -
Aamcotrans and a.paul Thank this.
