That is the talking on the radio...the truckers letting each other know their location...first come first through.

We used to do the same thing climbing out of the Hoover Dam crossing...the hairpin turns (heading towards Vegas) were too tight to stay off the Yellow line...the uphill trucks had "right of way"...out of respect to your fellow driver, that CB is always used in those situations.

I don't know if Swift has changed their "preferred routing"...but don't bother with the US 30 from 80 in Wy...the atlas makes it look like a short cut....use the 80 into UT and the cut off after the scales to get to Ogden and the 15 same amount of time and only 32 miles longer than using the US 30 route...

Nah...just too cold up there, I don't play in snow when I can avoid it.

Next week I won't have much choice when I head out on that East trip from Mound House, NV....80 across WY/NE and down to St. Louis...I hope there is a clear sailing time across WY...ELK MOUNTAIN SUCKS IN A STORM!

    Don't mean to offend anyone!

But the only thing I ever learned from watching a video was how to SLEEP WITH MY EYES OPEN!!!
    :biggrin_25525:

Seriously though, I think new students should be required to demonstrate that they know how to throw a full set of chains before they are allowed to drive!

All that being said, I don't and wont throw chains if I don't absolutely have to!!!

All the "extra traction" they provide is meaningless if you can't see the stinkin' road and drive off of the edge!!!

Hey OHTW....Next time I see ya on the side chaining, I'm gonna pull up and put on my glasses with the mustache and big nose on them and my stick on SWIFT sign and ask you to help me....

When you're done putting my chains on for me, I'll take off my clever disguise and speed off into the snowstorm!:biggrin_25523:

The mentors teach snow driving-- watch the weather channel in the truck stop- if you get a preplan into the snowy area, say No, drive in the South.
