There's a great many mentors who don't wear the shirts. And I thought you were going to buy me a lovely red volvo with an apu, microwave and let me have a dog?

Every now and then I consider the possibilty of mentoring, but I always come back to one thing- I'm just not good enough yet. Some people argue with me on that point, but I know it deep down. Sure, I qualify under Swift's policy, but I don't care about that.
I still remember my first week solo. I remember how hard it was. I would want to be a good enough trainer that any driver I let off my truck won't have it so hard their first week.Texas-Nana Thanks this. -
*applauds you* I've been asked also but I absolutely feel the same way.1nonly Thanks this. -
My husband is one of those crazy guys who teach the new ones the ropes... even though they are not in his truck, they are following in their own, they still make him crazy! You should hear all the stuff I get to hear about. Like the moron that could not understand why my hubby would take a shower 4 hours before he got home.. "You just took a shower yesterday, you're only a few hours from home now, and you're still gonna take a shower??" "Yeah, I don't want to take these chemicals we're hauling home to my wife!" And most of the time, they still don't get it.
Texas-Nana and otherhalftw Thank this. -
I'm out with my mentor right now, only got a few hours left till I upgrade. I would love to try some hard mountain passes and learn chaining. But he is set on what runs he wants to do, and what he is going to do period.
I've put chains on military vehicles before, so I figure atleast I have some knowledge of how to work them, I'll just surely be doing it the "hard way" -
Just my 2 cents here....why mentor when you have to PAY to have a student on your truck? then when the truck goes over 11k mi/mo you kick in another .09 cpm (yeah you get that back IF you plan to cough up the balloon payment IF you're leasing that is)
I for one, dont much care for the amount of 'hours' a student has to put in before upgrading. I still like the mandatory 42 days, etc. BUT, if i were to ever do it (and trust me...i wont ever do it) i would NEVER EVER be in the sleeper with the truck moving in the first 2-3 weeks. And i would let the student know straight up, that they'd be on the truck for 42 days....
but with all that said, i like my privacy too much, and dont think some students would like my dog jumping on them while they were trying to sleep. =) -
HEAVY DUDE Thanks this. -
right now, i'm not going to do it...ever.
