guess i'm not a good enough driver to get the invite. sounds like i shouldn't change anything so they'll keep leaving me alone.

you couldn't pay me enough to give up my privacy.....i like being able to do what i want, when i want....and not have to worry about "being quiet". I remember once on my mentor's truck. We stopped in Kingdom City, MO. Pulled into that hole in the wall truck stop with the Denny's. I said, "you want breakfast? its on me..." (yeah, i was actually in a super good mood and willing to buy) and i was suprised to her him say, "nah, that is okay, thanx. I want to get some sleep while the truck is still." :biggrin_25523:

talk to your DM. But do all of us on the road a favor, and dont mentor till you've got a year or two in. Not saying you're not going to be any good, just saying you have barely a drop in a 5 gal. 'trucking career' bucket, of experience. There are things you've not faced yet, and therefore could not pass along to your student. You could only teach as good if not better than the mentor you had. and if that mentor was a 6 mo. solo type mentor..........see where i'm getting at??

but lets just say you took the class, got your pretty blue shirt....it doesnt pay to be a trainer. Especially for a L/O....you have to PAY swift .09 cpm to have the student on the truck...(or is it .05?) And then once you DO get comfortable and start running the truck like a team truck the last week or so, if you go over 11,000 mi in a month, you gotta kick in another .05 cpm that comes off your balloon payment at the end of the lease. (should you not exercise your right to purchase, you lose that $$)...so after 11,000 mi, you'll be paying swift .14 cpm....out of the .92cpm loaded you're getting.

and lets not even talk about the wear and tear the student puts on your truck. transmission/brakes will last 50% less (if not more)...you'll almost need a b-serv. every other student (if each student takes 4-5 weeks.) and if you student happens to rip off part of your fender.....swift MIGHT pay for it...but you have to sit in a shop to have the work done....and swift WONT pay for your downtime. so more money out of your pocket.

just aint worth it to me....

    scottied67 Thanks this.
