This is from one of the Mercer recruiters....

"We do have O/O with multiple trailers. They will pull the Flat during the summer and Van during the winter so that shouldn't be an issue."

i dont mean to be a jerk, ok mabey a little bit. but its hard to take you seriously when you put yourself in reno and complain there is no work. i am sure there was something else you could have hauled after being picky for 17 days. sounds like you suffer from wanting to only do long hauls. i have that same problem but i am working on it. i attend long hauler anamous meetings on sundays.

i have put myself in ca twice and everyone said not to. i did pretty good both times but i also went to where i knew there was freight even if everyone did complain about the rates. i ended up getting good money despite. you just dont go to someplace like reno without knowing your going to dh to LA most likely. i absolutely LOVE running the northwest. i see loads all the time going up there and i have to slap my hand before i try to book one. look at the board, your lucky if there is even one load. in the 300mi.

I beleive Mercer turnover rate has gone up dramatically. Not different than other companines but Mercer used to have a very low turnover rate.

Yes there are guys here, that pull van in the winter, and flat in the summer. Only catch is the van has to be inspected at Mercer before pulling the first load.
Hard to beleive on good loads out of E.Pa in 17 days especailly if you read back couple pages on here and no lack of freight-Come one, come all. Lets hire more new drivers. L.O.L.
This is why I hate hear other drivers on here ready to make the move when things are still slow.
Hopefully Mercer has a plan on getting some new big contract, but so far no word of that either.

    Are we becoming Schneider?
How much does Schneider pay? How do they compare to here?

Well I am going to toss my two cents in on this.. I think Mercer's hiring spree has gotten out of hand and from a stand point of them having the reputation as they did when I signed on in 2010 of being the best Owner Operator flatbed company in the biz has suffered. In my mind what gave them that rep was they kept THERE drivers very happy with excellent freight, excellent rates, low turnover and an excellent support package and staff. Do they still have excellent freight? Not as much as they did but not entirely there fault due to the economy. I know rates are not what they should be because they are comparable to 2010 when fuel was averaging 2.40 gal with discount. As for turnover goes well when I signed on and like flightline said they were very picky. We had 9 and they cut one loose because he was late for oreintation the first 2 days and that was considered a large class due to a upcoming holiday and no classes the first of that week. There was no 2500.00 sign on bonus your bonus was more of the fact you were one of the lucky 9 out of 100 apps they received that week. Although 2500.00 would have been nice. Yes they still have the package and support staff but I think the economy has really seperated the go getter agents from the lazy ones and it shows. I know they work on percentage too and I wonder how they can make any money when they are only posting 5 or 10 garbage loads a week. So to sum it up is Mercer the Company that was an honer to sign on too almost 3 years ago? In my opinion no. Are they a good company yes but they are moving into the class of a lot of good companies out there that have the sign on bonus, the turnover rate and as long as there bottom line is increasing they will continue to do what they do whether we disagree or not. Personally I prefer the 2010 Mercer I signed on too. But i still have not found enough bad with them to drop the ball and look else where.. Again only my opinions from what I have observed from the last 2 and 3/4 years.

kmx ... I have my legal residence in NC, also a house in PA. I work dedicated in PA for several months each year and spend most of my time up this way. I asked you before what your preferences were for weight, tarps, places you'd not go to, etc. and you never answered any of that. I just don't see how you can say there is NO decent freight in PA. You are going to have to deadhead much of the time 100 miles or more since Scranton is not a great location, but that's not Mercer's fault. Most of the drivers here will try to help you, but if you don't cooperate, instead choosing to get all aggravated, then you don't seem to want to listen. There is a learning curve here, rarely does anyone come in and all of a sudden making all kinds of money, it can take a few months. As someone else said, a lot of drivers are already in trouble with their trucks and/or trailers, and by the time they can learn their way around it is too late for them to recover. Also, this type of system is not suitable for everyone, you make all the decisions, you accept responsibility for them. No one is going to hold your hand. Your coordinator can only do so much for you, you need to work with agents in your area, get to know them, and then be proactive contacting agents serving you destination way before you get out there. If you want to disagree with me that's fine, but that is how it works for, apparently, the few Mercer drivers that get freight put on their trucks without extensive delays. And there are places that just suck for outbound freight, no doubt about that. Don't go there without a good enough rate to deadhead to a better spot. Personally, I'll go to those places (usually out west) planning to spend a few days out in the mountains or desert enjoying life, and hoping they don't call with a load too soon. Obviously, opinions vary ....
