You get the money on the load sheet , if a pilot car is required mercer pays not you
-
THATS FANTASTIC!

Gotta be careful when using statements like "will mercer front me money for equipment" and "bring on the miles" and such. The learning curve here is steep. It's steep and it's fast and it can get away from you. The ability to get a truck however possible definitely doesn't guarantee mercer is a good fit. Heed the phrase from before of taking "elders advice".
Truckin_Texas91411 Thanks this. -
I never understood the phrase "learning curve" does that just mean you better learn fast or your toast kind of thing?

Rgr that! It wouldnt be fun without face pace learning!

It's not impossible, don't get me wrong. I'm just saying that hearing people talk about the money and picking your loads here and all that other good stuff sounds great but there is a lot of competition, more so now than ever. There will be times that the old hands here can run circles around you, the dust settles and they are gone and you're sitting another day. It can and will happen, no hand holding here at all, that's why it's so important to limit debt and have a hefty starting reserve of cash, you will not work every day here, and times when you do it will not be profitable. Gotta be able to not pounce on the cheap stuff because of not wanting to sit. Just my observation and opinions from my time here.
sanchez51476 and Truckin_Texas91411 Thank this. -
Yeah...ive been chatting with some of the guys and until i get a hang of running i need to keep a tight hand on my money. Especially since everyday mercer will be taking money out of my settlements. And as far as not jumping on the cheap stuff. Its simple math to figure if its worth it.
Total payout of load - truck expenses = profit. If the load isnt worth the effort id rather save the fuel and not move till a load comes up worthy of it. And as long as my expenses stays low so i dont have a very high debt everyday and i work hard. I should be able to turn a profit. Im passed my gung-ho days of rushing head first into things. Careful methodical planning is how im running this op. Now, dont get me wrong. Im not in any way being stubborn or "mr. Know-it-all" here. Im a total newby and will own up to that. Ill be grabbing for every nugget of information to help me learn faster. -
Well got on the board for real today. Leaving the house Monday. Booked a load to Rhode Island for $7.7k then to NC for $1.3k. So roughly $9k in 8 days with next weekend off. Not a bad start after 2 weeks off. I was shooting for GA as my truck should be ready soon. But I'm sure I'll find something to get me there from NC.
Oh and the first load is 10' 2" wide. Only need lights in Ohio and Indiana it seems. And a few states I can run at night too.
On a side note: tapping into the factory wiring on Fontaine trailers WILL void the warranty. Call your manufacture and check.
