This is big boy trucking. Customers don't pay a carrier to d/h so you figure it into your rate. The rare exception to this is a few dedicated accounts where the customer pays round trip and has exclusive use of the equipment.

Are you talking about the fiber glass fairing above the sleeper? The last one I took off was a full fairing on a 95 mid roof pete. It wasn't very heavy, only needed a second person cause of how large it was. Unless you pull a lot of tall loads, taking it off will save some fuel. However if you pull anything tall, even once every couple weeks, that savings will be ate up and then some. I have a mid roof and average 7.3 or better on almost every load I put on, but stick a can on me, even empty and I can barely hit 6.5.

Like spyder said this is big boy trucking. I eat all the deadhead. This isn't a typical week, but being that I was ready to get home and get ready for my mini vacation this weekend coming up I decided to come home earlier than I normally would have. When I finish up my paperwork that I've been slacking on ( I'm in vacation mode already) I can give you some September numbers. I will say they're prob not the best compared to the other guys here since I've only been here since May and I'm still learning the lanes, system and agents as we speak. And also I've been rather picky when it comes to freight and I've been experimenting with different running styles to see which would work best for my operation.

Load. 1 Florida to TN 1.70 per mile on 632 miles. 120 mile DH
Load. 2 KY to Iowa 2.27 per mile on 793 miles DH 98 miles
Load. 3 SD to GA 1.57 per mile on 1304
DH 180 miles
By my calculations that works out to about $1.57 for all miles.

To the truck after Mercers cut. For a guy with six months experience. In today's crap economy and not sitting a single day. Ya, it's not too shabby.
