Very true. Funny my bad month was caused by chasing an LTL. Started great then killed a whole month. I learned from it and now know better.

I know some people do great with them, and the potential is there, it just goes back to staying in our freight lanes. If you wander too far out of the freight lane, good luck.
I started in PA and wasn't supposed to load until late Thurs afternoon. That's the load that I got locked in on last Wednesday. Pays ok going to CA, but I wasn't going to have time to grab anything in the Midwest that was available at the time, so I dropped down to TN going KS. Turns out a LOT of freight popped up I could have added in OH, MI, IN, IL, WI, MN all headed west and could have easily picked up and delivered 3 or 4 in the time I was under the one to KS. Then there was nothing between KS and CA I could grab before I deliver that wasn't so cheap and so far out of route it wouldn't have been worth it. I'm not done with LTL, just learned to be patient on booking them.

Yep. I still run them. It was a learning experience. You learn from them, make a change or two and try again. My last two have paid dearly.

Unless you really have a good head on your shoulders Mercer isn't the place to come to if you have weekly payments like the Quality guys. Especially if you're doing van.. It's a learning curve and concentrating on that along with trying to make weekly is hard... I've been saying that a lot coordinators want you to go through them first. Why I have no idea... I'm no longer here but I have nothing bad to say.. For the van newbies u better be ready to go any and everywhere.. There likelyhood of you trying to get home often and still be very profitable is nearly impossible.. Best thing to do is to come on doing flat.. You'll be better off..

I have done a couple times. Keep in mind it was van loads. But I always made exactly what I needed to justify my DH to Montana to reload out of there. It's a beautiful drive, I personally wouldn't do it this time of year. Also, once you cross, 1 truck stop!
