i took a glance at the van board in this area. its down too but not as much. they are about equal to flats and thats just stupid. i get to go try to figure out how to strap down 46 tires today for not much more then a guy shutting a door, that doesnt make me happy

Available freight - I jus looked at the public offerings, Isn't there supposed to be a "TX" in between "TN" and "UT"?

I am an approved carrier and all I can see is the Public Board. There is never much freight in Texas. Lumber out of New Boston is about it. I like to run in Texas and this is the major reason I am so hesitant about leasing on with Mercer.

Looks like 3/4 of the loads in TX are for vans, average rate appears around 1.20-1.25/mi.

I've been at this for 32 years now and in my experience it's always like this in Jan-Feb.
Half the country is in a deep freeze and there is hardly any construction happening so consequently very little flat deck freight. Also there is usually not much Govt freight moving this time of year.
When I was with Landstar they would have 1500+ trucks stuck at home in TX just trying to get going again or so they told me anyways.

Just drive through the T/A in Baytown and read the doors of all the empty platforms. Then drive through a few days later... same ones... still empty. It's like that every winter.

I got in and out of there and home last week for over $2/ld mi avg. But I have more options.
