I also don't understand having to copy the logs over to paper by hand, until the end of the trial period? I'm still on the trial and have printed my logs on Mercer log forms, both US and Canada versions, since day one. ????
And as I was sitting at the truckers only counter, I heard a guy say he heard from a buddy who's cousin's brother told him that Jesus hauled the fish as an exempt commodity, so none of the rules applied and he didn't have to squeeze any berry juice to sign his papyrus logs.

Here's a quote right from Eclipse's own help files........
"During roadside inspections, you'll need to show your logs to law enforcement officers. Technically, current FMCSA regulations require you to be able to print your log so far for the current day, and to have printed copies of your last seven days well."
So even the Eclipse Logbook software says you must already have the prior 7 days printed out before hand. -
roshea, that is a link that pertains to electronic signatures ,aka digital signatures. that isnt what i use to sign my eclipse logs. i use a digitized copy of my exact signature, i signed with an actual gel ink pen on a form i printed out from eclipse. i then sent the form with my signature on it to eclipse and they sent the digitized signature and it downloaded onto my eclipse program.
when my logs are printed they have my exact signature, you can do this also with any pdf document like load confirmations etc, you pull the form up click the signature tab, apply your signature and send the form back to someone and never have to actually print it, and save a copy to your computer.
the letter posted is dated from may 2002 , there have been several court cases since then on the validity of such signatures.
the logs are supposed to be printed everyday and have available, just like with paper logs you have to have them done up currently and a copy is availble for the past 7 days. but in that the original doesnt have to be presented only the carbon COPY ofthe log on which the signature on those is actual a copy of your actual handwritten signature.
i have used eclipse logs since jan 26,2012 and have used this signature since feb 28,2012. i have had logs checked in ohio, georgia and alabama since then and was never questioned, i simply handed the office my printed copies of the previous 7 days and opened my laptop for the current day. none of the officers had a problem with it, the ohio officer asked if i had time to show him in detail how it worked , i did and he said he wished everyone used them.
mercer has never had a problem with them, since going to them i havent had even the most minor of a log violation, like forgetting to enter total miles or a math error. mercer even gives me smiley faces on the letters each month saying i had no log violations.
its not rocket science, its common sense. just print the things out every day , have the COPY of them available and there wont be any problems.
if len dunham aint got a problem with it, you can bet your life youre good to go.Flightline Thanks this. -

its not exactly a rumor, although the regs mention nothing about fifteen minutes, they do have an exception
here it is is
in section 395.13 b 3 it states word for word-------
(3) Exception. A driver failing only to have possession of a record of duty status current on the day of examination and the prior day, but has complted records of duty status up to tha time (previous 6 days), will be given the opportunity to make the duty status record current.
end of section 3 there, note it doesnt say may, maybe , could be, might be etc etc. it says WILL BE GIVEN.
so in reality that 15 minute myth has some truth to it, this is the basis for this so-called myth, its actually truth printed right there in the green book. if you read sections 395.13 b 1,2,3 and 4 , it reads that you can indeed catch up the comic book.volvodriver01 Thanks this. -
