auto, i havent heard of mercer having anything like this, but then there are plenty of options to search this out on the web.

i am doing ok, satisfied enough . i am not looking to go anywhere. i am having to put forth some more effort into working the loads .

its the nature of it right now. its in a period like that, just like it has ebbed and flowed for the entire time i have been in trucking since 1979. its somewhat the nature of the beast.

some on this thread are frustrated for many different reasons. this industry has chewed up many and spit them out. its like fighting against the tide, the tide will win. however if you learn how to catch a wave and surf , you do much better.

and changing leases during the dead of winter with flat or step company is tough at best. the open deck business has always dropped off in winter.

also , most times when someone changes leases they have their backs against the wall and invariably a good bit take the high dollar sucker load to nowhere as their first load out the gate to generate revenue.

i think what some of you miss in these threads is the things that may very well help some of you.

if someone posts they are content and booking loads ahead and making a little money, perhaps instead of saying they have a pollyanna attitude, are happy with 7 or 800 dollars. maybe you should instead look at what they are saying.

flatbed 22 pm'ed me many times and i only told him how i worked the boards to line up loads, he seems to be quite satisfied.

i am setting this weekend, i turned down several loads, but would have ended up in bad load areaswhile tempting to take just to keep moving. i would have ended up monday worse off than i am now, so i just took the weekend off here in beautiful kenly,nc.

monday will drop a load for me, i am up to number 2 after all the loads to nowhere were taken.

i agree, then it would be like it was in old days. they keep doin what they are doin and they are gonna destroy their reputation, not to mention loose some good guys thats still there......i know of quite of few good ones that were there for years and rolled out because of this very reason. Hell that was my only real complaint, other than amount of revenue being turned and deadhead miles, but i felt that the reason for that was mostly cause from what was just described by you mtoo.

    Very good point, mtoo.

Like I said, I was just wondering if they do offer anything like that, or not. I am not trying to recruit, that's for sure. Every company has their good and bad points and it is up to us, as individuals to pick what we each like.
I've been at it since '79, also, and agree with you. There are ebbs and flows constantly and this is just how it works.

BTW, even though we do have these programs, very few take advantage of them. I think most would rather moan and groan about how unfair it is, rather than do something to improve themselves.

ya know when i went thru orientation, all i wanted was to know how they wanted paperwork to get paid, how they would do settlements and take out deductions of things i owed them.

i found dean and everyone very pleasant, easy to deal with , and organized . just a laid back orientation. i just wanted the specifics of how to get paid.

i liked the free snacks in the back of the room. i liked doing the urine test right on premises.

i didnt like the endless questions of those of kept asking what if this and what if that.

but one thing i can say, is i have never had one penny deducted out of my settlement i didnt know about. i knew when i leased what the daily charge would be for my tag til paid, the charge for the new tarps i bought , my daily charge for tl payment etc. i could and still do figure my settlements within a penny or two as soon as i got the load on my trailer.

the only thing i bought was the legal plan which has come in very handy the two times i used it, i beat the rap for illegal rh turn in ok, and beat a speeding ticket in oh. well worth the 26.00 a month.

from the posts , are you guys having problems with things being deducted that you dont owe or werent aware of??

amen to that sister. i think i would fit with landstar system, what with being able to book loads and not have a first in first out deal, might be the ticket.

That's an oversimplification by someone who doesn't want to admit problems exist. Problems need to be worked out, not glossed over.

I'm not a one trick pony, I have the mind and aptitude to do many things.

I love the nuts and bolts of driving a truck, it's the "profession" itself that is eroded to a point that eventually kills my love for rolling down the road.

The opportunity is lacking in trucking, at least for the driver. It feels like the system is rigged to place a cap on how much an O/O can earn. This is becoming a job for immigrants, like taxi driving and fruit picking. I still believe the carriers and agents collude to skim rates down to an established cap for the O/O.
