I don't know how many they retained, so I can only calculate the growth based on the numbers I have. I don't know the exact percentage rate of turnover, so I couldn't subtract any trucks, but I know they leased 1800 people in 2 years, and that's a lot.
I don't fault Mercer at all, they're a business and as a business they have to look out for themselves. I just posted that because people leased here also have a business, and they may leave for other reasons beside "failure".

Edit: If I'm correct on the 2014 MCS-150 they had roughly 2200 trucks, so lets say last year they netted 270 trucks. A net growth of 12% so if this year repeats last year, that's a net growth of 24% over 2 years.

I am speaking of averages, but overall fleet size isn't up nearly that much. There untold reasons people leave. Fact is some folks just go place to place, never stay anywhere long, some are looking for quick fix.

There is no. One size fits all, you have to adapt and change quickly, some don't do that well

I agree, people leave for many reasons, business failure being only one. The is no one size fits all in trucking. Just because mercer is a great fit for me, does not mean it will be for the next guy. The thing that gets under my skin is when guys that are leaving or left, say things that just aren't true. For example, all the agents play favorites so a new guy can't get good paying freight. Our all the freight is just rebrokered garbage rates.

One thing thay i have noticed, is the guys that stick around six months to a year seem to be here for years. Obviously you have the exception, some guys find a lucrative opportunity that you can't say no to, others were only here as a stepping stone till they branched or under their own numbers, etc etc.

Cj, after almost twenty years of folding tarps a buddy showed me a way to fold a tarp in under two minutes in any amount of wind. Next time i tarp i will try to remember to slow down and take pictures.

I'm not sure about everyone, but I know a couple that were chasing the big load. That didn't last long though, and they adapted. One guy was working for one of the fleet owners and decided to get his own truck and he has done ok, but he has had a run of bad luck that keeps knocking him back to square 1. I dunno, it seems that most of the people I talk to that are having issues have a recurring theme, they seem to solely or overly rely on their coordinator.

Yes, please do. I try not to tarp much, but I was struggling rolling them up in some wind the other day.

I've only been here a little over a month. So far I've relied on my coordinator for all my loads. I've also been looking at the board but, I just can't seem to find the loads he has to offer. I don't know if I'm missing something or I'm just not spending enough time on the load board. I have to say, so far, I've been happy with what he's been doing for me. He keeps me loaded usually a week out. For example, I'm at home now (leaving in the morning) and he has set me up with loads through next weekend. There have been a few dead heads that were longer than I like but, I don't like to sit so I do it. I guess what I'm saying is that a good coordinator can be an asset.

Spider, don't leave out the ones who stay and say things.that aren't true. But remember, when someone leaves they blame others, it can't be any fault of theirs..
