All you koolaiders could pay me 15 percent come here with all your own equipment and il find ya all the brokered freight you want pat yas on the back when your leaving on your trip and be the one lmao like this place is doin to you.you would think that a place with 2000 trucks would have a little more goin on then brokered freight but hey why should these agents go out and put effort into it when they could get their work from a broker ther still makin thier 7 percent for a phone call and a fax machine and instead of mercer fixing the problem they just hire 40 more suckers every week to replace the ones that gave up pathetic and you guys fall for it wow!

While I was sitting at home, I saw one load out of LA area at $1.85 going to WI (may have been somewhere else, but it wasn't a terrible reload area) but it disappeared off the board within seconds. Also saw a 1500+mile military freight out of Travis at $2+, also gone in a matter of seconds. Sometimes you get lucky and you happened to be at the top of the board when good loads pop up. I haven't been so lucky. Used to see a lot of $1.90~$2.00 military stuff out of Ft Irwin and 29 Palms, but I haven't seen any for quite sometime. Correction, I've seen some, but at discounted rate.
Rates going into CA haven't been a whole lot better as of late. $1.85-ish from east coast. The last one I did paid $2.04, but it required 6' drop tarps and had 10 stops. Seems the rates out of Chicago area are starting to get back up. There's one load paying $1.94 on the board right now, but it's still short of what the same load used to pay.
Intra-state freight rates were holding up nicely until a few weeks ago. I started seeing mega carrier trucks at one of the shippers I used to frequent, and I haven't seen any freight from that shipper lately.
Other than occasional freight out of Fresno, Visalia, Selma, and Madera, I have to DH either to LA area or Sac area - 220 miles either way. Your DH miles will be less if you live in Sac/Stockton area. If you live in real Northern Ca like Redding, your DH miles are likely to be just as bad as mine, and you'll be limited to NoCal/Reno freight, unless you want to DH 600 miles to LA.
Like others have been saying, there's more freight east of I-35. I usually stay in east at least a couple of weeks when I need to make money. You can still make profit if your truck gets good mileage and you have low overhead, but definitely not as much as a couple years ago.
I can't honestly say I recommend Mercer for you in the current freight climate, but if you insist, I think you'll be better off with a step. And/or get your passport, govern your truck at 65, and go to Canada, eh?
Some are speculating rate increase when CARB's new regulation takes effect next year, but I'd be surprised if it happened unless you have a specialized wagon (extendable, 3-axle step, etc) that none of mega carriers have. I'd rather use my $20k for a downpayment on a house than retrofitting DPF on my truck, so I'll most likely just move out of CA.
Lately, I've been contemplating selling my truck/trailer, and becoming a day trader LOL.Shadowed, firstclass and Boardhauler Thank this. -
I'm still making money and I don't mind sitting a couple of days here and there, but I'm not terribly happy with the direction Mercer has been heading.
You're right that the turn over problem won't go away until they fix the root of the problem. Or until the majority of the fleet is replaced by people who are content with cheap freight (I'm not saying anybody here is) -

Myself, I'm still doing OK making money here and not been hauling brokered freight. OH, but had to tarp a load the other day. Gosh so rough here.
