I get the thought behind not being told what equipment you need, I don't like being treated like a child or having my hand held, either. That's actually why I'm at Mercer. Out of curiosity, though, why would you not use a bulkhead or headache rack? Is it just because you don't like the look? I'm just curious because I know that no matter how well I secure a load, I can't control how everyone else drives and I like the idea of the extra layer of protection from getting a piece of steel in my front seat.

The bulkhead or headache rack will stop or slow down something light. Anything with any weight to it will barely get slowed down. I always ran a bulkhead and had a storage area built into it. I have never been too big on the headache racks and or cabinets. Saw a guy going down the road with a number of boxes under his trailer. I liked the look so when I got my current trailer I had boxes mounted to suit me. It is not for everyone. It works for me.

Personally I like a headache rack for chains and binders. Pulling them or of boxes on the trailers sounds like a royal pia.

I kept mine in my boxes the first few weeks to keep them out of the weather. The first load I needed chains on was the last one they were in my boxes for. Now I just make sure I lube the binders (ratchet) and close them up after each use.

I imagine that was like untangling Christmas lights.

They weren't too tangled on themselves, it was my straps and bungees that made them seem like Christmas lights.

My chains are in plastic heavy duty boxes. I bought some chains at Toledo Tarp and they came in the boxes. Each box holds 2 chains. I put my 2" straps and ratchets in boxes too. Bungee's are in a box. My mother always said I was a clean freak and a neat freak. I'm pretty organized. Also i'm not above stealing other peoples ideas I like. I sometimes walk around the parking lot at whatever T/S I am at checking out other people's set ups. I see some Mercer guys with some really well organized outfits.

Yeah, I have since put everything in their own plastic bins, but the chains/binders are now on my headache rack

I also moved my tarps to the top of my boxes instead of inside.
