I didn't even need to do that. Had been pulling mercer loads for years so they just had to call over to the brokerage side and verify my mc# was an active carrier with them.

Ok, I understand what you are saying and thankyou . The application packet I downloaded says one (1) yr of recent interstate. So I should talk to recruiting recent to me might not be recent to them.

Next spring, is the financial time line that I have set. So I have to follow that. Im not going to go into this on a shoestring or faster than I feel comfortable with. Thats just the way I am tho. All though nothing is carved in stone. If I should have a giant winfall, come my way things could change.

Butting in here. But if you find that you meet their requirements now, but will not meet them in the spring...you might consider driving for one of their o/o's until you are ready. You might as well plan on driving for em for a full year. By about this time next year your finances should be ready and you'll have a full year of hands on Mercer exp out of the gate when you get your own. Not a bad deal imo.

Another good idea there Arky. Yes, by next year he may not meet the recent experience requirements. Best to get started talking to recruiting and find out what they will approve, or even work with him to extend the requirement as long as he starts the ball rolling right now. Working for a Mercer contractor in the interim would take care of that issue and also let him learn how things are done here, giving him a huge advantage once he decides to move in to his own truck. That could almost eliminate the learning curve that everyone experiences.

Question: if leasing onto a company like mercer, does my husband pay for his own insurance on truck? Trying to figure out benefits of leasing on.

I feel safe in saying no matter who you lease on to you will pay for your own truck insurance, physical damage & non-trucking liability (a.k.a. bobtail). Some companies will also charge you for the cargo insurance, but not many. Mercer does not.

One benefit I encountered: I had my own insurance before coming back here. My premium was cut more than 1/2 half once I opted to take Mercers insurance. I was paying 3358.00 a year for both tractor and trailer, I now pay 1598.00 a year for both....that is a substantial reduction.

The biggest benefit is good paying freight.
