I talked to Mercer recruiter last week and he told me that rates were 1.20 -1.40 roughly but also because I lived in Az he said they dont have much of any thing there, in or out. I am only about 90 miles from vegas but he said Mercer doesnt usually have anything there either so he said I couldnt plan on getting much of anything in or out of my area. Also he said he couldnt give me any sample load sheets (like Landstar does) so I could see what was really going on with Mercer freight. But then again if rates he told me were accurate I cant run for 1.20 a mile. So I guess Mercer is out, schneider choice is also not available in Az. per the recruiter so I guess landstar wins
Been debating betweeen Landstar and Mercer and Schneider Choice like all companies LOTS of pros and cons to them all -
1.20-1.40 had to be van rates right?

flat/stepdeck

Dang, I know for some reason Mercer struggles for decent freight out west, but haven't looked out there for awhile, had no clue it had gotten that bad.
-
flat/stepdeck-- which seemed really low but based on the no freight in nv/az scenario he told me and because he couldnt send me sample loads I just figured I live in the wrong state or region for Mercer- just like schneider choice has no "choice program" for az, just company drivers.
Landstar has sent me pages of sample in/out load sheets so I could get a good idea of what certain runs or loops would pay with lots of az/nv loads -
LS does seem to have a better presence out there than we do, good luck to you.

If I lived in your area, I would look into tanker work. There's lots of chemicals and plants running in the NV CA AZ area. I have a friend who lives in Vegas and he runs tanker to Houston and back every week and loves it.
