So.. after spending 7 hours unloading today. The notes say 4 hours until I can get paid detention. After 5pm it's a flatbed rate of $250. I was unloaded at 510 think I'll get the 250 lol

And I do refuse them now. The first time I took such a load to the destination in Norfolk there was no such notation on the load information, nor did the agent inform me of any limitations, but it is still absolutely unreasonable to think that a driver in this time would not have things like a cell phone, a camera in that phone, a laptop, and perhaps carrying a camera. Why should we be deprived of our private property or of exercising our private interests or hobbies just because we drive a truck? We allow ourselves to be treated as second class citizens by accepting these conditions.Boondocker Thanks this.

So where about in Florida are you? I'm pretty sure I just booked a mini vacation. I booked a load picking up tomorrow going to Key West for Thursday. I'm hoping I can empty out early, reload, then convince them to let me drop it tomorrow afternoon, but doubtful. Maybe I'll get lucky and a magical weekend load will pop up or I can deadhead quick enough to book one

A southern suburb of sarasota. There is a pilot 20 miles south of me in punta gorda you could park your truck at and I'll shoot down in the pick up and grab ya. Right now I'm at the hardrock casino in ft lauderdale. This will be the 2nd night this year i didn't make it home, but guess it could be in a worse location. The customer has already informed me that if i don't go drinking with him and the crew tonight he is gonna call landstar.Airborne, 77fib77, Zoocrew77 and 1 other person Thank this.

So it seems I stepped on some toes... I had a load for today and Friday. Ended up getting them pulled off Cuz I feel like ####. Went to the doctors today here in TN. I got bronchitis plus they think there is more going on but I refused blood work. As I can get it done at home.
It seems they are trying to push ####ty loads on me for some reason... -
Just tell them "Don't call me, I'll call you"
When you say "they" to whom do you mean? Your coordinator? Fill-ins? Agents? If it's your coordinator I would have a serious conversation with him/her. You have preferences for a reason. Fill-ins are just trying to get a job, the don't know you and can't refuse a load for you really. Agents want to move all the freight they can. Good and bad, things are tough all over. But if you spend a sec talking to them about your needs, I've found them to try and work with you (or me).
If you have anything like what I got stuck with at New Years it sucks and doesn't go away. I think I finally beat it yesterday but we will see. I've thought I beat it a few times before. Get some rest and get well.Airborne Thanks this. -
Hi everyone. My husband and I am considering leasing in with Mercer. We have our own truck and trailer (48' flatbed--but fixed axle so will probably buy a trailer from them once our plates are paid off to Mercer). I have spent days reading this thread (and admit I have a loooong way to go), but I have a couple of questions:
1. If we see a load on the board that we are ready to commit to and it says it pays $2 per mile--is that after Mercer takes their cut or do I need to subtract their 25%? If it is after their cut and we normally want a load that pays $2.50 per mile gross, then I should be ok looking for a load paying $1.85 or more?
2. Do they offer o/o's the opportunity to buy medical insurance? If so, approx. how much would it be for two people?
3. Are new drivers forced to use electronic logbooks or can we use paper logs?
4. How often are we required to do inspections on our truck? Are we required to do it in Louisville or can we go to any TA?
Thank you in advance for answering these questions. Meanwhile I will go back to reading this thread.

1: if looking at the contractor web (our in house load board that only permanently leased trucks have access to) that rate shown is after their cut. It's a true TTT (To The Truck) number.
2: they have a group discount for crap health insurance.
3: everyone is on elogs except for a handful of guys that had mechanical engines that were here before the elog mandate was announced.
4:inspections are due every 6 months. 1 per calendar year must be done at louisville, or by a mercer inspector when they are traveling. The other inspection can be done at any one of our approved locations. I don't think any ta is on the list. There are usually 2 or 3 approved places in each state so getting one done on time is never a problem, unless you put it off to the last minute. -
We have a 2005 Freightliner Columbia. Would there be a problem with elogs? I'm assuming we will be fine as we reprogramed the ECM and we currently have Qualcomm with the company that we are with.
