I think the question of buying fuel "off the grid" got lost before it could be answered or maybe it is meant to go unanswered. I'll chance it and say if you need to adjust your log to accomodate a stop over, that's your business.
Yes, you do lose the benefit of the fuel discount but I for one realize how in the real world this may be a small price to pay to afford a stop over where ever you may want that to be without being made accountable for that stop. Like good cologne, if this is used sparingly you'll probably ok, but if used too often or overdone and things will start to stink somewhere if you get my drift.
We have to match the fuel stops where I'm currently working within 15 minutes. Not hard to do for the most part. I usually buy fuel in bulk when I can, (axle weight concerns not withstanding) and motor on down the road to my next favorite low price fuel stop. If and when I come over to Mercer I may have to re-think my approach with consideration to the much advertised fuel discounts. Time will tell as it always does.
Be safe, get home once in a while and may God bless us all!

Well I have good news and bad news.....
1st the good news - I have been approved to go to work at Mercer
2nd the bad news - I'm not eligible to lease a trailer from Mercer due to my filing Chapter 13 Bankruptcy to re-organize our debt and get back ontrack. That's what Chapter 13 is as opposed to Chapter 7 which is where you take a huge dump on everyone and walk away free and clear of all debt. So much for doing the right thing. It's really stupid on Mercer's part.....I'm good to get a trailer from somewhere else and come haul freight but not with their lease program. If they did lease me a trailer they would take their money first, right? Right! If I did give the trailer back in a few months for whatever reason, they would sell it to another driver looking for a lower overall cost than new, right? Of course that's right. I have a perfect driving record, zero issues regarding dui's, wrecks or whatever you could imagine a person can have in a negative way. And I have over 25 years driving trucks that is verifiable!
Give me a freakin' break!
Shhhheeeesss!
Anyways.....that's the straight poop on the deal...see ya!Last edited: Apr 24, 2013

Sorry to hear about your misfortune but allow me to try and explain little more.
With a chapter 13, the court could force Mercer to pay the court payments to be applied toward your previous debts and would not reconize the rental payments for the trailer. So in respect you use the trailer for a year and Mercer doesn't get any money for the trailer.
Also with you making court payments, you are more likley to fail finiancially here and if you fail, they fail.
I hope I've explained this without hurting feelings.
I'm sure it does not seem fair but so many things are not about what's fair but about the numbers .
