I would guess it's heat related. Either the electronic ignition getting too hot and breaking down, gas boiling, possible a stopped up vent in the gas cap if you're using the factory tank, or engine just getting too hot to run.
I've seen the exhaust valve guides swell up so much from heat the exhaust valve would stick open until the engine cooled down.

It's fairly new generator , more than likely overhead valve type. Pete, have you changed plugs lately? Try a marine type plug , they don't foul as easy. We used to run marine plugs in our kart race engines, two reasons they don't foul at bad times , and on flat head motors if you didn't index the plug , the valve would lift at high rpm and close the gap
