As long as you don't go over a mile it won't log you on. Now if you're on your 34 reset, you can use the truck for up to 50 miles for personal use. I'm doing my reset now in Troutdale. I could actually use the truck to go to Walmart or whatever as long as i don't go over 50 miles. All i have to do is call my log girl and let her know why the truck moved.

I was told, as long not under a load, truck could be used for personal use/ logged off duty.

Just to make sure i understood what they said, i called my log lady and asked that question. She didn't have the answer so she put me thru to Lynn. This is what he said, if i am under a load, i could use the truck for personal business. He told me as long as it has nothing to do with the truck, yes you can. I can drop the trailer, go to the house and do a restart, do shopping or eat. Just has to be personal and nothing to do with business and i'm logged off duty. I'm sure if you ask 10 different people, you'll get 10 different answers until they get everyone on the same page. It has it's downfalls but i don't miss the paper logs or keeping track of state mileages. All i do is enter my log remarks telling whether i'm on duty, off duty, loading etc.

the thing i dont like about the eobr is if i am with in 200-300 miles of my house i usually just hammer on down past my drivie time nd park it at the house. and just tightin up the logs the next day. you wont be able to do that with eobr. even if you get with in 60 miles of the house you wont be able to do it... so when is the dead line to get on with mercer to not have this installed. and are they making everyone run these after a certain time... oh and got my app in today will see what happens. i got a clean mvr and not job jumper. did no driving school. my instructer was my dad in the 80's running cattle behind him in the middle of the night from hastings iowa to the packing house in kansas city. in a old cab-over international... at the ripe age of 16

You are absolutely correct Rooster. That's one of the things i'm not really liking. Sometimes you run a few more miles to make it home or to a decent truckstop. With this box, when you're done , you're done. You need to plan accordingly. I got stuck at the Sapp bros in Sydney NE on the way out to Portland. I'll plan better next time lol. Good luck with the app. Doesn't sound like you will have a problem at all.

I was told everyone will be required to have them by the end of 2014.

I was also told by the end of 2014 and all carriers by the beginning of 2016.

EOBR can also have time benifits also. In loging by the minute not by the quarters.

I been here going on 3 months now. first month and half were great. last month not very good but its no fault of Mercer or the freight. 2 deaths in family then truck broke down, just crazy stuff. Finally getting back in a decent rythym. As for the driver that came up unsolicited and telling you how bad it is run hard and fast from those people. I had a similar thing happen. Im putting away gear on my trailer and a lady walked up telling me what a huge mistake I made and how my load the next day was gonna be aweful. A month later Im sitting in a Idaho truck stop same lady sits herself down across from me in the booth and starts telling me how Mercer had fired them. I wasn't suprised at all. Now the good stuff. I broke down 5 miles from delivery on a big Army move luckily at a small fuel stop. Another Mercer driver offered and I accepted to take my trailer in and get it unloaded for me and wouldn't take a dime for his trouble. Then no less than 5 other drivers spent all day helping me try to fix the problem. They were turning down decent frieght all day just to stay and help. When we finally decided it was beyond anything we could do there and called a wrecker 3 went ahead and took loads and left the other 2 hung with me till the next morning when the wrecker showed up. Now these are the kind of people I want to be around. Because of all this I'm a sure nuff koolaid drinker now. oh yeah and the money aint terrible either.

You had an experience with REAL truck drivers. The kind I started out with, and tried my best to copy as I became an older driver in this business. What you experienced is what trucking used to be. I am very happy to see that there are still some real drivers out there these days.

I have picked up drivers that had long term brake downs, or wrecked trucks, and drivern them to the front door of their house, as some have done me when I started out. That's the way it was done. We looked out for each other. I always found myself helping out other drivers work on their trucks or get into tight spots as I was walking to and from the TS. I guess it was drilled into me, and I just can not pass up those that need help, for I was helped by many old hands, and was given much advice that I may not have liked at the time, but when I had time to cool off, I knew what they said was true, and tried my best to do as they said, and pass it on.
