Legal requirement? I'm seeing a lot of loads in southeastern PA & NJ now that say in the load notes:
DRIVER MUST PERFORM AND LOG A SPOTTED
LANTERNFLY INSPECTION PRIOR TO LEAVING THE
SHIPPER
I wonder if this is something the surrounding states DOT is expecting or just a Mercer requirement? Nothing I read in the SLF training said there was any such requirement, although it could be required by a state. If so I think it can only be required on intra-state shipments. So far I haven't seen any type of enforcement of this, but maybe they'll do it doing RoadCheck and other inspection blitzes so they can catch a large number of drivers unaware, uneducated, and misinformed.Rickp and back street slider Thank this. -

You misunderstood my question. I am well familiar with the permit requirements. I was referring to the part about logging the inspection before leaving the shipper. The rule is from the Pa Dept of Agriculture who as far as I am aware has no authority over our HoS recording requirements. There are very few things that have a regulatory requirement to make annotations on our logs, the majority of those that drivers make are optional.
And the training may be from PA but the rule itself applies to most of southeastern PA and parts of MD, DE, NJ, and VA. -
