Yes, they no longer require flatbed experience. I guess it's a learn as you go type of deal. I'm not worried about freight falling off. I'm worried about damaging the product trying to secure it and showing up to customers not knowing what im doing.

 

I wouldn't be worried about damaging shingles, coils, and pipe. I'd be concerned with how quickly I'm going to go bankrupt or broke trying to play local flatbed driver in Chicago.

I have already made my money. I've been working 80+ weeks for the last six years, the last two as an o/o. Everything I own is paid for. I'm coming to Mercer to try and learn open deck not looking for money. I want to eventually move into heavy haul. I want to have a job I enjoy.

Do you think I'll go broke because of the rates or lack of loads?

Is the work just not there?

 

Xk has 2 kinds of kits. One has the driver incorporated into the light base. One has a seperate driver, about the size of a matchbox, wired inline between the plug for the light and the bulb/base itself

 

If your looking for short 50-100 mile loads it's not going to be consistent here because of lack of loads..

WAY to many companies in Chicago area competing for those loads...

I get what your saying but dont you think it's a better idea to learn while making money?

The vast majority of the shippers they haul out of in Chicago area pretty much as a listed before...


Tubing or Pipe ( Plan on spending all day at those shippers in Chicago... You will learn tarping as most of those loads need that...

Roofing shingles... Mostly no tarp... Easy load to strap...

Insulation... Sometimes needs tarped... Easy to strap...

Coils... Chains & Binders, almost always tarped...

I guess if you dont need the money and feel you will just skate by for a few months as you learn, by all means dont let me stop you.... You may only find yourself doing a couple loads a week though.

 

Mercer's freight is all double or triple brokered, and spot market is in the tank.

Good place if you're not looking to make money.

 

Double brokering is illegal....you might be thinking of co-brokering, which is legal and fairly common in the industry.
