Because the Liberals passed CA AB5.. Anyone leased onto a carrier that makes it illegal. Also if u haul a load into CA for a broker you gotta pay taxes on it LOL

I’m sure other states will soon follow this, because mis classification is federal law as well.

It's not mis classification though. We own our trucks so that shouldn't be an issue. It's gonna end up putting us out of work. It's just a money grab... CA had the highest state debit lol

Well the Supreme Court in California says it is mis classification, so it’s about mis classification.

Simply owning your own truck in the eyes of federal law doesn’t make you a IC. If that were the case, auto mechanics would be ICs because most own their tools. There is much more to being classified as a IC.

California had a $21 billion surplus, that being said, of course it’s about the money. I Imagine states that didn’t have a surplus like CT are already drafting their versions.

According to OOIDAs website 84% of trucks out here are run by small businesses consisting of between 1-6 trucks....

It doesn't give a breakdown of how many of the 84% are leased on but I would imagine it's a very large number.

I dont see this really going too far. The country would stop if this was pushed through to all other states.

If it does go country wide ill be selling. Insurance alone would kill me. Thats the reason i stay leased onto a carrier. Where im at now i could run my own numbers and get like .30 cents more a mile but then i gotta pay for my own ELD and insurance.. I Priced insurance and it wasn't cheap almost 18k a year....

The 84% that you quoted from OOIDA is from safersys & 100% of the 84% are carriers not leased operators.

IMO I see more & more states adopting California’s version of the law, because a lot of states are broke, & the country won’t miss a beat. Just my opinion though!!

    That’s only 60,000 miles/year at $0.30/mile to cover $18,000 in insurance.

Yeah plus a company to do random drug testing keeping up with logs and ifta all that good stuff. Not worth it. Plus 1 incident and ur gonna pay double for insurance. Not worth the hassle
