International had a system almost like yours in the 90's. They called it 3+1. Three regular batteries to start the truck and one deep cycle to run the accessories when the engine was off. The deep cycle was isolated with the switch off, then was put into the charging system when the truck started up.

I KNEW i was a genius!!

I decided against the Maxwell but gonna prob just go with AGM. Reason i don't use the APU in the winter time is its useless for heat. My bunk heater works so much better then the heater from APU. Plus it uses less fuel
If i go with AGM at least i get the 3 year warranty on em Lol
-
Does that three year warranty cover a road call in the winter when the truck won't start?
spyder7723 Thanks this. -
Why would i need a road call? I Still have the apu set to Charge the truck as needed. I'm just tired of replacing truck batteries almost every year. I didn't have this issue last year with these batteries.

The last 4 new trucks I bought I kept each one 5 years never bought batteries, I live in the NE you don’t need all of that hokey bull ####, stop trying to reinvent the wheel.
whoopNride, 379_largecar and spyder7723 Thank this. -
You are replacing batteries because they are not being kept charged properly, they are being run down too far. You realize you can run them down to where not only the truck won't start but the APU won't start either.
spyder7723 Thanks this. -
I have it set to 12.0 on the APU. so once it hits 12.0 it will kick in and charge em up for an hour then turn off and once they get to 12.0 again they will recharge again

What's the reasoning or rumor behind her termination?Klleetrucking Thanks this.

Standard is 12.2 v cutoff, so your batteries are discharging each time more than they should, shortening their life. Also the charge current cutoff is usually set to 12 Amps but that may not be right for your batteries. There is more to this battery life and charging thing than is being considered.RStewart Thanks this.
