Uh huh. And when someone has been doing just that for two years, yet still no magic high dollar loads, what's the answer?
I know, you just have to figure it out, right? Just gotta figure that secret out, then money will rain from big blue heaven.

If after 2 years you haven't started finding them you are doing some part of the equation wrong. Sit down and reevaluate exactly what you are doing and try making little adjustments. It could be where you live or the agents you are trying to build up relationships with or a host of other things.
For me it was location. Read back when I was posting a lot. I moved and that changed everything.
Nobody here is trying to keep a big inside secret with handshake and all. I wish you the best. I wish everyone the best. But I know Mercer isn't for everyone.roshea, RStewart, larry2903 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Like @CJndaTruck says, communication is the key. These shippers get truck after truck that have a hard time securing a load and/or putting on a tarp. You come along with a good attitude and show the shipper that they don't have to give their load a second thought once it leaves their yard. Do that a few times and you have developed a relationship with the shipper. Do the same with the agent. After a while your name comes up when the shipper and agent are talking. You do this with a hand full of shippers and a hand full of agents. This isn't exclusive to Mercer, it's how to be successful. Doesn't mater if your digging a ditch or trying to be successful with a truck. Do your job much better than average, stand out from the crowd. These shippers get average trucks all day long.
At one time Mercer's fleet was way above average, it was easy for the agent to sell. Today Mercer's fleet is average at best, so when you stand out to a few agents and a few shippers.................... When the shipper brings up your name good things happen.
Mercer's not for everyone, if it doesn't work for you then move along, find some place that fits you.Last edited: Apr 17, 2021
RStewart and CJndaTruck Thank this. -
Attitude is 90% of it. Be professional, dress professional (to a degree), talk professional and do a professional job. It's really not hard to stand out in this industry.
CJndaTruck and mtoo Thank this. -
Don't want to rub it in, but this is my life since I sold out and retired. Being an owner operator with Mercer for 30 years was good to me. Be safe out there guys, being old, stress free and retired is good. Make it home to your loved ones.

Rubbing it in would be having a fishing pole in your hand as well. Lol. Looks nice and peaceful. I'm glad you made it through trucking and was able to retire and enjoy life.CJndaTruck and nikmirbre Thank this.

RStewart are you still running dry van out of Oklahoma and did you ever get your own authority
RStewart Thanks this. -
I am still running a van out of OKC but I'm at Landstar. I wasn't prepared good enough to run the spot market and covid almost put me out of business. I decided to hold off on getting my own authority. My plan at this time is to run here but switch to open deck. I keep my eyes open for opportunities but right now I'm gonna hang here.Speed_Drums Thanks this.
