It wouldn't be so bad to pay a lawn mower shop rates ($35hr) but to pay incompetit mechanics dealer rates ($105hr).

I had to change my purge valve on my air dryer, it would hang open after exhausting and it happened in Jacksonville, fl on blanding blvd.
after making delivery I manged to tap the valve from the bottom with a screwdriver to get it to seal, I found if I stopped at a light and used the hand valve and kept it revved to 1300 I could hold air, drove it to savannah picked up a purge valve and took it home. tried my best to get the snap ring out, but it had 877,000 miles of buildup and crap and it wasn't budging. so I broke and calling local mechanic who has mobile service also. I told him I could get it to shop, he said not to bother he would stop by on his way home, after using his finely honed skills and a bigger set of snap ring pliers and 2 screwdrivers and a 5 pound hammer the snap ring was free, but the purge valve wouldn't budge, so we fired it up , built air til she purged and out it popped. he put in the new one and all was well. total cost 40.00 , I gave him 50 . and everyone was happy, this is the same guy who replaced all my top end bolts and studs after 5 of em broke off in the head , reset the overhead, replaced both injector and iva harnesses for 500 bucks labor.

I feel for you as I've had another crazy lousy week also.
I loaded thursday morning in Ky for Ft.Bragg and before leaving they called and cancled the load said they couldn't take it for over a week because the base was going to shut down for the storm. Didn't want to give me anything for my deadhead and 4 hours to load and unload because the Commander said it was an act of God.
Finally Mercer step up and paid me $150 for the day and half loss but Miltary still got out of paying.
Winter weather sure cuts into our work. -
Well surprise surprise, the kid said it was the purge valve. Ordered one waited 2 hours for it, didn't fix it. After he consulted another mechanic he started to pull the govenor. I said it was replaced 2 weeks ago, he still said that was next. I said I didn't want to pay for him to throw parts at it. I said how about bypassing it untill I could find a ih dealer, he said I can't bypass it because it would keep building air. So I paid the $170 and left. I have until tues morning because of presidents day to unload so ill do like I should have in the first place fix it myself. I could have stayed and argued with him about bypassing the dryer but I was tired.

Looks like the rebuild went well flightline. I thought the long hoods didn't put the motor so far back into the firewall? Unless its just the angle of the camera. Hows she running so far?
-
It's not the Extended hood, just a short hood 379. That's partially how I get by with 305" wheel base with such a large sleeper.
She's running smoother than I can ever remember. Slight oil leak under compressor that is bugging me. And turbo pressure isn't as high as I'd like but up to 28.5.
I just changed my air dryer filter today after reading about yours. -

Well the seconary tank will drop to about to 105 psi the compressor kicks in to about 120 psi the dryer spits cycle repeats every 30 seconds. Seems it stops leaking in cold weather. Does it driving or stopped. Primary tank never drops. Builds air just fine. Governer has been replaced, purge valve has been rebuilt. I told the kid last night if I was going to spend $150 to rebuil the valve I could buy a whole reman dryer for 200, he didn't think it was necessary. One thing that is confusing me is that 4 times now when the computer called for the fan to come on, 3 times while jaking decending a hill and 1 while climbing a hill the fan would not disengage afterwards. Every time the dryer would spit i can hear the fan slow down then speed up again.I have to stop and kill the motor for 5 minutes before the fan will stay off. The fan comes on and off as needed while idleing. Could my fan clutch be leaking causing the problem in the first place? If I wasn't clear, when jaking down hill 5 seconds after jake engages the computer engages the fan to help brake. I think if it ever quites raining here I will bypass the dryer and see if it still leaks down, if it does I might have a leaking fan clutch.

the dryer, for this kw is 450 bucks. so glad the 100 dollar purge valve did the trick
