Hello Mercer Team, I just got approved by Mercer (Currently a company driver for Lone Star Transportation) and expect to start orientation on 28 April 2014. I bought a 2008 Pete 387. Got a couple of questions.
1. I want to stay Flatbed, but don't have the equipment, (Headache Rack, chains, binders, straps etc.), can I get these from Mercer and at what cost? The recruiter said yes but I want a drivers prospective.
2. So every insurance company I have gotten a quote from Progressive, OOIDA, has been higher than Mercer, anything I need to watch out for when it comes to their insurance.
3. What is orientation, Truck inspection and Drug Test (Urine or Hair, I ask because I am bald and hate hair being taken from other areas) like?
4. I live in Texas, why are Texas, California and Florida bad areas to get out of? I mean I have no problem in taking low freight to get out some slow areas?
5. I would also like to go to Canada sometimes in the summer, any thoughts on this? I have asked for a flatbed with a sliding spread axle. -
2. There insurance is great.
3. Best orientation I ever been to. Very very strict truck inspection, but all legit stuff the dot will look for.
4. Texas, cali, and Florida are bad for a combination of reasons, such as low rates plus a lot of guys live there that will be at the top of the board. I suspect California has improved since do many of us won't buy new trucks so can't go there anymore.
5. Mercer doesn't have sliding spread flats. If getting a trailer from mercer it will be either a step with a sliding spread or a flat with a fixed spread. Eastern Canada a fixed spread is fine.Battle Born and Bigdubber Thank this. -
Was at the TA in Baytown Monday getting lunch with a friend there was 9 empty mercer trucks in the parking lot ended up seeing three inside two dropped Friday the other dropped that morning he said he was 32 on the board so sounds like way more freight coming in than out for mercer.....when my driver was there we always loaded out of Texas pipe going Ky, Wv, Oh, or Pa them loads paid $1.60-$1.75 not sure if that has changed.
