I pulled tanks for 25 years before coming to Mercer with almost zero flatbed experience. It's really not a big deal, just go for flats from the start. Like Flightline said you'll lose money switching over. There's no such thing as slowly switching, you are either in the van or the flat division. Different coordinators and a whole different freight base.

Mercer has a one flat bed course on load securement, you'll probably have to go through to pull flat but it's common sense.

That was my concern also.. 0 Flatbed experience but I've got 2 friends over at Mercer now and both said "take your time, common sense" and you'll be fine.. So I'm leasing on in Jan 2015. Not getting my own truck till December.. This thread is teaching a lot of info

roshea,, I should be there Wednesday evening loading in florida Tuesday after I drop in Miami Monday, delivering up off exit 28 I-71. if ya still there, I think we last got together in Bordentown,nj.

Yes, last time was in Bordentown. I'll get there later on Mon and be around all day Tue for some meetings. Loading Wed morning to NJ. Then truck goes to body shop for new hood from when I got backed in to back in Dec. Maybe next time.
