Anyone listen to LandLine today? Apparently all 2011 and newer sleeper trucks must be smartway approved in the state of California. Guess who's brand new truck doesn't meet the smartway requirements? Guess who lives in California?

If that was how I logged it, running with Tmc and dealing with some of their shippers, I'd run out of hours in three days. No thank you.

Kona, what would you have to do with your rig to get it certified? I feel like California is just begging for their carriers to leave the state. Unfortunately there's some mega carriers that will but into it and that in turn will not allow for any changing of the "law."

It's almost impossible for me to comply. Smartway trucks have aero mirrors, bumpers , roof fairings, sleeper fairings, fuel tank fairings and short wheelbases. I'd have to get some things custom made which would ruin the truck for sure. If I wanted all those aero parts, I would of ordered a cascadia. It's just frustrating to think that since I ordered a new truck that I would be fine for awhile and now I'm already illegal and I don't even have the truck!

I'll roll in and out if Cali a few times more but if people start getting fines and tickets, I guess I'll have to move out east. I am NOT going to get rid of my new truck that's for sure.

That would be bogus. I wish I understood what went through their heads. Must have something to do with their debt, and some tree huggers getting their way. Just move to Northern Nevada haha. You'll still be in drive of where you like to explore and such.

I don't know if this will help or not with ELDs ? I work for a company that has People Net software when u sign in that is the start of your 14 hour day your options in a list are off duty, driving, sleeper berth and on duty . No matter what u punch other than sleeper berth your 14 hours is still counting down no matter what. This is a game changer for Mercer I hope u guys can figure it out because this going to make guys push the limits on there driving. It's not fun going to rest areas , truck stops to find somewhere to sleep in the middle of the night cause you are trying to get the most out of the day to be closer to your destination.

I think what he means is that if you are signing in to the system, you're not off duty.

There goes your fuel savings @ 58 mph.. now you have to run 70-75 mph to put those 700+ miles at the end of the day..
And let's not even start with the peeps that know peeps that know peeps that love to take that nap while rush "HOUR'S" pass.
No hour-move-round to compensate "AWAY FROM HOME.
Between un-loading and loading day (re-read) you'll find yourself in high probability of having to run over night.

Wanna include the 34 restart once-a-week allowance?

    mtoo Thanks this.

Here goes an invitation to join me in houston.
No state taxes, cheaper housing, better schools and no issues with your truck

I know with Qualcomm I just stayed signed in. The first time I signed in it would go to on duty, but you could edit everything but the drive line. I was able to do as I pleased as long as the truck was sitting still.
