If you believe that you are somehow legal driving after your 11 hours I'd like to see that in the rules. It doesn't matter what you're hauling, and I question what you have being "some of the most dangerous stuff on the planet." If you run out of drive time and THEN look for a place to park that is the typical case of poor planning. The most basic requirement of any compliant electronic logging device is that (1) drive time cannot be edited and (2) drive time is automatically recorded all the time, it is not an option not to record it. If you doubt this then read the regulations, they're freely available.

It seems there are only a few people here that realize you can run well under the speed limit for fuel economy, don't need to push 11 hour driving days, don't need to worry about "miles" but high revenue loads instead, and can run in a much more relaxed manner and make well better than average money. As has been said before run smarter not harder. Some people get it, most never will. Even at the same company guys will struggle to make 2000-2500 per week and others will do 3500-8000 with barely any effort. Those that fail blame the government and the company, those that succeed, well, they "just do it".

I keep hearing this. Isn't everyone on the same set of rules now? And I remember how rates went up in the past:

    1. CDL license came into effect .... rates will go up
    2. HAZMAT endorsement then background checks .....rates will go up
    3. TWIC card requirement ......rates will go up
    4. "new" HOS with 14 hour clock .....rates will go up
    5. CARB rules ......rates will go up
so I'm really counting on buying another new truck, motorcycle or two, and vacation home with
    6. ELDs .....rates will go up

    Lets not forget trailers

1 40 foot to 45........rates will go up
2 45 foot to 48.........rates will go up
3 48 foot to 53.........rates will go up

like I have said before; I'm glad I'm at the end of my career and not the beginning.

The faster you get that load delivered the faster you can pick up the next. Seems simple math to me. Spend 3 hours getting empty and another 3 to get loaded somewhere that's 6 hours off your day. So subtract 1 hour log book time for unload/reload it's 5 hours times say 60 mph equals 300 miles. Couple times a week that's 600 miles. That's a day worth of running you loose. Ain't know way e logs can match loose leaf for productivity no matter how you slice it.

don't forget the states with 57' trailers. And the push for an increase from 80K to 97K or more as the weight of a "normal" load.

jim, that's a mileage mentality. here its a revenue mentality, I rarely run over 2,000 miles a week, my yearly avg for all miles by speedometer is well over 2.00. I maximize revenue for the least amount of miles, I drive slow, save fuel and maximize profit.

if you are careful what loads you pull, you can make money without running around like a chicken with its head cut off. we call it getting mercerized.

example tomorrow I am seriously thinking of taking a load to long island,ny that's pays 3.31 to the truck , 3100 on 945 miles. I have worked my way to no. 1 position on the Louisville board, I am in the cat-bird seat come tomorrow morning

as an example, I stayed out from apr 26th to july 3rd, never sat long enough to take a 34 restart, but never ran out of hours.

Your right I will have to adapt. Hope I can emulate that but I don't plan on staying out that long wow. That's a long time away from home!

it was completely my choice, the rates were out of sight. and when offered 2.80 vs 1.90 home , the 2.80 wins out. my wife dad was an owner op, this is her normal. you run when its there. but I got a daughter that qualified for nationals with her horse in Oklahoma city in October, 1000 mile trip, and entries fees alone for dressage and jumping was 1500 bucks, so daddy go to make gas money now. if I could strap the horse to the flatbed, I would take a load to okie city in October.
