I bet UPS offers alot more this year, considering the problems they had last year and the higher rates all over.
But it'd still take alot to convince me in.
I'm alot like skateboard, scared to drive after dark.

Maybe if you put a couple of windmills on top of your rig, maybe you run afew hours after dark. (Grin). Heck maybe you could get some of those juicy gov subsidies for being so green.

Answer to question 1 ... No

UPS is ... okay ... here's the best way I can describe it ... ya run like ya got a hot tater up your hiney for 3-4 days ... sit for 1-3 days ... run like ya got a hot tater up your hiney for 3-4 days .... sit for 1-3 days ... rinse and repeat.

Never know how much you're gonna get paid until the send you a "package". Rates really vary due to toll allowances, etc. Too often when you "drop" you have to do a stupid trailer search cuz UPS doesn't know where their trailers are at. Or you arrive to pick up a load and it's not ready. Sometimes you sit for hours and hours waiting, don't get paid "detention", then get hassled when you deliver "late". That's about the gist of it.

    Any questions? ;)

Also with doing UPS, it's pulling their trailers and sometimes doubles. Pulling doubles kills the fuel economy.
All loads kick out 11pm-7am and they don't tell you until time to run.
The pay is pretty good considering it's pulling their trailers. I think last year was 1.87per mile plus tolls.
All loads are out and back to the same point. Most times you will be returning with and empty trailer but pays the same.
Gets real crazy up close to Christmas, then comes to halt.
Also you have to call dispatch, and UPS dispatch when loaded and unloaded with every run, every trailer and every stop in between.
And most of the UPS yards are very tight in and out with lot of traffic.
Teams make out pretty good since they get long dedicated runs.

My condolences bro. That is a beautiful outfit, I'm sure you'll get it back good as new & it will all work out.

If it makes any difference my truck was totaled by a turban-wearing bottom dump driver in Sacramento Monday night. He left in an ambulance without anybody getting his ID, there was no legible name on the truck, no CA number, no license plate could be found, I couldn't find any registration or proof of insurance in the cab.

But the weather here is beautiful, I hope you can take a few days to enjoy it. I'm loading up the DR 650 & heading for Trinity next week. A couple of days in the wilderness will ease the pain.

I have a question about the equipment list, are 8 foot tarps mandatory or will 6 footers suffice. Not a fan of 8 footers...lol

Carry whatever size you want. They dont mandate that you must have 8' tarps.

Well on the equipment list on things are supposed to have, it list tarps that can cover 8x8x48'... at orientation after that I sure you carry what you want. I just don't want to buy them for one day.
