Some O/O here do make that good of money (not me)but they work hard, run where the money is and tarp loads. Yes that is on the flatbed side.
I can't say for the dry vans but would think it's lot harder.
I just got done with UPS and now taking some needed time off, maybe a month or two -
Just read on FB where guys are making $290,000 a year gross at mercer this year😆

Hey, sorry for the lack of info in my question. My plan is to buy a beater truck... like a Freightliner Century or T600 or something.
I'm still not sure if I want to buy an old used trailer or rent a trailer. Right now I'm grinding out the oilfields until I can buy a truck in full... but I will finance the truck so I can use the savings as a buffer for truck payments / emergency repairs&overhauls, and business expenses until invoices start coming in.
I plan to take 10 days off for every 2-3 months, I will tarp and take all the short runs if it means more $ per mile.
Another question is... I heard Mercer will train people on how to secure a load if they have no flatbed experience, is that true? Or should I really join a flatbed company for a bit to learn the ropes?
Basically my trucking goal right now is to make the north dakota oilfield money without being a north dakota oilfield trucker... I kind of miss being over the road... heh. Thats why I've been looking into becoming a flatbed O/O. -
