people seem to forget how high fuel prices were back when the economy collapsed, bigger contributor than the mortgage crisis. fuel surcharge is just a way for a temporary rate increase. its smoke and mirrors, three card monte and a sheel game rolled into one.

By all means I'm not a numbers guy.. Let's say if you are averaging $2 a mile. How can you be saving money on higher fuel prices? It seems to me you will save money on lower fuel prices. $4-$2.50=$1.50 in saving. If you keep your rate at $2 a mile you will save money. I'm a I missing something?

I don't see it as smoke and mirrors. I look at what it cost me per mile to run vs the rate I'm getting.
One just needs to get better than average fuel economy.
I have the highest profit per mile when fuel is high. At these low fuel prices, my good fuel economy makes less difference, yet the rates are down so my profit per mile is down as well.
I hope it goes up and way up so the rates get back up.

For the sake of our economy and the average American, I hope fuel goes lower. People will have more money to spend on other stuff. Btw, that stuff will need to be trucked.

The Saudi Prince made a statement today. He said we will never see $100 per barrel prices again in our lifetime. He obviously cant predict everything, but what that says to me is that OPEC is going to keep production high in order to hurt our domestic production.

Broke down today. Had a 2000 mile run, delivered load, turned onto the on ramp, smelled a strong hot clutch or brake smell, then felt a vibration. Peterbilt exit was 1/2 mile down the road. Pulled into peterbilt, opened the hood, fan clutch was going out. 4 hours and $1150 later, all is good

Considering it could have went out yesterday, under load, taken out a radiator, and a tow bill. I am very very happy to part with $1150.

I had thinking of doing it at home for the last 6 months

take away our fuel discounts and figure it then. I got my abg up to 7 with my cat but over the long term with higher prices on fuel you also have higher costs on everything made from petroleum or delivered using fuel. those high surcharges are passed on to the cornflakes, tires, anything plastic, supermarket items, tires etc.. when you look at the overall picture whatever you might seem to make off a high fuel surcharge will be quickly taken and then some by everything you keep yourself alive with. remember when fuel went to almost 5 bucks a gallon? the economy collapsed from that just as much as the mortgage crisis.

that's why I say smoke and mirrors , you might make 10 more cents a mile but it will consumed by everything else going up in price .

that's the trick ricky bobby, keeping the rate the same. I am doing just that being just a tad more selective.
