You have to maintain your own maintenance fund, tax fund ect. There are discounts on things like tires. But I'm not an expert in this field and I'm sure there are others with more comprehensive information.

Just started reading this thread and its a great read. I'll keep my questions short, im looking to buy my own truck, either a 2016 volvo 780, or a 99' freightliner, yeah I know, kind of opposite from eachother, nothing is set but I'm leaning towards the new volvo. I have no fb exp but would love to get into it and never look at a reefer again, does mercer require exp before leasing on? And how do you guys get your loads? Dispatcher? Load board? Dealing with brokers directly? I'm not interested in dealing with a dispatcher anymore either so that's why I ask.

I have my reserve setup to take out 25% of my gross b4 any deductions and in August when my loan is paid off I'm increasing it to 30%, we have a few states that are tax exempt for repairs, WA, OR, MT, WY, MO, IL, IN, OH, PA if I remember correctly, we get a discount at Truck-o-mat, and a small discount on labor or parts can't remember at dealerships. Mainly b4 you do a repair call IMPACT dept and ask never hurts to ask

We have coordinators they set your load preferences into the system and offer you loads, a loadboard, and agents. You can choose a load from any the above but it's all based on your position number say your #3 in line of who got unloaded first the load you want has to be offered to number 1 & 2 first

Yeah, thats basically what I was asking. You said you have it set up to take out before any other deductions, but then it was also stated you are in charge of it on your own. So, just a little clarification, are you having it taken out at the bank level, or are you having Mercer withhold those funds? I was intending on around 25% to start with as well, I figure between truck and trailer, provided I don't end up with a lemon, that should suffice to build up enough that when something goes wrong I can still cover it.

but add into that math the variables , x and y if you will, of where the 2 hypothetical loads deliver to. the 40k ending up up in Chicago vs the 2k to nd then what??

in reality the 1300 mile load would be more of a 3 day deal, all things being equal you would deliver the 3 a mile load 9 hours earlier than the 1300.

Mercer takes out my deduction, you have the option to set up one in orientation, they don't care what you use the money for just a simple call and they will load it on your EFS card or you can even have them settle a shop bill out of your reserve
