Mercer coodinators/dispatchers are trained to not question or ask twice on a load. They will contanstly tell you, don't run any load you don't want. The only time, they are pictular, is once you commit to a load, they want you to run the load.
The lazy drives, starve here and the rest make good money. The ones not making good money is usally because they take loads to lousy areas. This time of the year, the lousy areas will bite you quick.Bigdubber and Truckin Juggalo Thank this. -
So what's the lousy areas? We are from Iowa & wondering if we'll get home w/out a 300 mile dh. We normally run 3 wks off 1.
-
And Mercer will never tell you where to buy fuel at. They could care less. Even with Mercer paying the fuel taxes, they will recommend buying all in the cheaper states.
Some of us buy petro, some buy mostly Loves, some buy mostly at Mom and Pops.Truckin Juggalo and Bigdubber Thank this. -
All you need to do is play with the load board. Hypothetically pick a load, then look at the next area and so on. It is easy to see where not to end up. Now, circumstances can change, nothing is for sure but just play around with it. If you are out 3 and off 1 I don't think any dh would be prohibitive to me going home. Good luck.amwilletts10 and Truckin Juggalo Thank this.

I spent SEVEN months at home last year. Including an 89 day stretch. You will never be forced to take a load here. Just don't complain if you run out of money after being home for a month, or if your first couple checks are basically non existent after accumulating so much deductions. -
Congatulation spyder u know if u worked instead of sitting home that cuts the chances down of swelled bellies
-
Congratulations! That's what happens when you spend so much time at home. Lol
What part of Iowa are you from? -
Iowa isn't a bad area, but it's not a real good one unless you are close to the quad cities. I live in south Florida, the black hole of flatbed freight. If I can make it living down here, there is absolutely zero reason why you couldn't. If you gotta be home on a specific day, well it's trucking, sometimes there just isn't going to be a load delivering closer than two hundred miles or so. It's just past of the business. Besides, if a 300 mile dh a couple times a year is going to make a difference, things are so screwed it might as well be three thousand miles.
