So I have a couple questions for you guys. After having given it some thought, it looks like I think I am going to to flatbed (provided they accept my application). If so, looks like it will be March 23 I will be there. Anyway, about how much does a skateboard weigh? I know there is obviously a difference in steel and aluminum, but I'm really asking because I'm trying to figure out if I can get away with a W900 with an 86" studio sleeper. I know they want you to be able to carry 45k and that's obviously going to be a heavy truck. I was looking at getting a 2010-11 387, but after crunching some numbers, I think if I go pre-emission I can find a W900 at a price that would cover the difference in fuel. I found one that I'm interested in, but don't want to waste their time or mine if its going to be too heavy to bring on at Mercer.

I would say a combo trailer weighs around 10,000 give or take a few hundred pounds. I had an 05 W900L 72" sleeper, 275 wheelbase aluminum trailer and could scale 48,000. You shouldn't have any problems.

I personally would avoid any trucks between late 2007 to 2012.... my truck is a 379 60 inch stand-up 305 wb with 2014 combo flat and I can scale 48300 lbs.

I had good luck with my old 387, but it was one of the last ones to roll off the assembly line before they went to DEF and the 587. I never had any issues with the engine whatsoever and it made it to 496k before i turned it in. That being said, it was a Cummins, I know to avoid CAT 07+. I had an '08 T2000 with a CAT and it had all the problems you hear about with those. I had to do a regen every 250 miles and it was in the shop every other week. I like my Cummins engines, but I know CAT used to be good pre-emission so I'm not against having one, I just know to avoid the newer ones.

The Fontaine combo I picked up in late Dec weighed in at 10.4k. You should have no problems.

Now, I must be the worlds slowest tarp thrower ever. For the tiny amount paid to tarp a load I think I might go home this weekend and drop my tarps off. I keep telling myself it will get easier and faster but I have yet to see it. The only thing that is faster is how fast I get filthy now. Someone needs to start a service that tarps like a lumper service. I would pay.

Are you refering to a Mercer trailer? If he already had his own, he would probably know what it weighs.
Mercer only has a very few fontains, mostly are the great dane trailers which are very heavy trailer. Like close to 13K, I was told by Mercer
Many guys here have a weight problem because of the great dane trailers.
That being said, Mercer isn't real pushy on the 45K payload requirement. Once your here, they say very little about it.
